Released in issue 8, March 19th, 2009. Will be in volume 17.
8 months have passed since the end of the summer S.A festival at Hakusenkan. The 3rd years are attending their graduation ceremony, and Hakusenkan is celebrating 108 years of enrollment.
Before the S.A go to the ceremony, Akira rejoices over the fact that Ryu gets to continue being in S.A because Iori is backing out. (Ryu doesn’t know if it’s something to be so happy about…) Jun changes the conversation by adding that they’ll be 3rd years at any moment.
Akira pulls out invitations for a party, which Jun remembers is probably for Hikari’s birthday since March 20th is coming up fast. Akira tells them that they’ll have to pass out invitations because she’ll be busy with other party preparations. (Tadashi doesn’t like it, but Akira won’t let him refuse^^) Of course, before they can get the show started, they need to attend the 3rd year’s graduation ceremony.
At the ceremony, all the 3rd years can’t help but stare at the S.A, which are seated on a special row of their own. This greatly annoys Hajime Kakei, the EX-student body president, who wants everyone to look at him. He yells at everyone to not look at them, but the VP says it’s fine. With that, Hajime slams on the stand and declares that he’ll crush all the S.A…someday.
“The person that wants to defeat the S.A…”
Iori is awkwardly confronted by sobbing girls who ask him if it’s really true that he’s going away to a salon in London. Iori says it’s true and apologizes to them. He smiles, saying this is his dream.
“The person who wants to be a beautician.”
Sometime after the ceremony, Ryu is really surprised when he finds Finn wearing a female Hakusenkan uniform. She twirls and asks if it suits her. Ryu tells her it looks good, but asks why she suddenly decided to wear one. She explains that her father has let her wear one for the rest of her time there at school. But besides that, she’s decided to look more like a girl because she wants to openly cuddle^^. Suddenly, Ryuu turns, leans over a rail, and hides his face. (Finn, you know not what you do…^^)
“The person that wants to be like a girl.”
Ryu admits that he thinks he needs to be more careful. Finn tries to tell him that he’s become a lot stronger, but Ryu says there’s no way he’s strong enough yet…
“The person that wants to become more of an adult.”
At Sakura’s house, Sakura attends Jun’s violin practice, only to fall victim to his horrible playing. Jun goes to her side and sees if she’s alright. Sakura rubs it off and says she’ll hear his playing before anything else. Jun begins to feel sorry about this and apologizes again. Sakura assures him that it’s perfectly fine and that she loves his violin. Jun promises her that someday he will get to the point where he’ll be able to impress her with his violin playing.
“The person that wants people to hear him play music.”
Sakura is overjoyed with his words and hugs him, kissing him on the cheek immediately after. Just then, two maids come in and ask for Sakura. When Inner Jun sees them, he invites them over to hang out with him, but says he’s joking when Sakura yells at him.
“The person that wants to take hold of the person she loves.”
Near the entrance to Kokusen, Megumi keeps a couple tickets and writes on her board the words, “Opera tickets from Papa. Want to go toget…” Before she can finish, Yahiro surprises her and asks what she’s doing there. She erases it before he can read anything. While Megumi sulks, Yahiro sees the tickets on Megumi’s board. Megumi is surprised when he seems to suddenly say he wants to go see an opera. He gently smiles at her and asks if it’s okay if they go out.
“The person that wants to show someone his open feelings.”
Megumi blushes and agrees right away. Of course, she has a music lesson that day, too.
“The person that wants people to hear the songs she sings.”
In Akira’s kitchen, Tadashi has tried to take samples of Hikari’s birthday preparations, but Akira has stopped him with a smack each time. Tadashi comments that she’s definitely enthusiastic. Akira calms down and cheerfully answers that she’s enthusiastic because it’s her precious friend’s birthday.
“The person who has always valued her friends.”
Tadashi smiles and quietly says that that’s what he loves about her. Akira pauses and become sparkly, saying she didn’t quite hear him and asks him to repeat it. Tadashi flat out answers that he loves her pastries. She smacks him once again…
“The person that has always treasured that one girl.”
In picture scenes, Aoi is talking on the phone looking busy as usual. Alisa is a Kokusen student now, and she’s enjoying her many dishes of food (while other students stand and look like they’re going to barf). Sui is a middle school student now, enjoying his Big-Brother photo album. Grandpa and Midori are together in front of Izumi’s grave. Atsushi is holding his diploma with a couple other boys in Kyushu. Satoru is seen wearing a high school girl’s uniform to entertain more clients. Lastly, Sumire is getting ready to throw a dart at the S.A board.
Narration: [Everyone has something they’ve set their hearts on.]
In Kyushu, Hikari’s parents talk about the decision to let Hikari stay. Her mother says Jiro should’ve brought her along so he wouldn’t be lonely. However, he tells her that he’s not planning to interfere with Hikari’s decision. Her mother decides that it can’t be helped if Hikari said she wanted to stay. Jiro reveals that her decision was made far before the festival event, but at that moment long ago when she bowed to him and asked him for a favor…
Hikari Narration: [Right. My decision…]
A few nights later, Kei is guiding Hikari up a skyscraper to show her something. However, she continuously becomes short on breath. Kei asks her if she’s worn out already, and Hikari gathers up her strength to show him that she’s not worn down this easily. Kei starts to mock her and says that even if this were a challenge, which it’s not, then Hikari would never win anyway. Hikari dashes up the stairs again, telling him that even if it’s little by little, she wants to quickly defeat him. Kei becomes serious and asks why she’s in such a hurry. Taken off guard by his question, Hikari is at a loss of words and remembers the day of the festival’s end 8 months earlier.
Hikari Narration: [The day of the festival…after I lost to Takishima, my father told me, “Stay at this school until you defeat Takishima.” It’s what I’ve always asked my father for in the past.”
“Please let me go to the same schools until I defeat him.”
In the end, Hikari’s final decision was what it always has been: to defeat Kei.
As Kei runs up the stairs, Hikari pushes herself even more and passes him. However, he wins anyway and stands calm speechless while Hikari catches her breath at the top. He apologizes for winning, which confuses Hikari. The view of the city catches Hikari’s attention, making her forget about Kei’s words. She’s absolutely amazed with the view and asks if this is what he wanted to show her. Kei blankly answers that she’s a bit wrong.
After this, Kei asks her something that must have been bothering him for the longest time. He confronts her and asks what she’s going to do after she defeats him. He asks if she’ll just go to Kyushu as soon as she achieves her goal. Immediately knowing what’s troubling him, she answers that she kept her word. She’ll go to Kyushu when she defeats him at pro-wrestling (and only pro-wrestling^^). Kei is shocked to hear her say this, but Hikari cheerfully adds that even if she were to defeat him once, she wouldn’t feel like declaring herself the winner because winning once isn’t good enough.
Now relieved, Kei clicks something and decides to increase his number of victories even further with this next challenge. He grins and folds his arms as several fireworks fly into the sky. In the sky, the fireworks spell out a proposal.
HIKARI PLEASE MARRY ME
Narration: [The festival’s resuming fireworks rise.]
Hikari instantly becomes embarrassed as Kei laughs at her reaction. She asks him what this embarrassing thing is for. Kei goes on laughing, saying that he thought he needed writing that big to get the point across to her. This also happens to be his challenge to her, and a proposal this big means he’s definitely won.
“The boy that wants to continue on defeating that one girl.”
Kei asks her for her answer, but Hikari laughs and says if she accepts it now then she’ll lose.
“The girl that definitely wants to defeat that one boy.”
Kei smiles and holds his fist up to her.
Kei: “It’s fine. I’ll accept your challenge any number of times. *grin* Miss 2nd place^^”
Hikari: “I’ll definitely defeat you!! Also, don’t call me 2nd Place!”
The final scene shows Akira and Hikari yelling at Kei, while Kei cheerfully smiles. Just another typical day in the greenhouse…
Narration: [And then the festival begins again.]
The end.

Final chapter~! Thanks for 5 years of serialization, Minami Maki-sensei!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (6 years if you count the year it ran in ZA Hana toYume…) I will await her next series in…6 months? Maybe? That’s the typical time it takes to see a new series unless it’s already been worked on or if she‘ll be taking a break. I probably won’t be able to cover her new one-shot because I won’t have scans. And then I probably won’t be able to cover her new series from the beginning because I’ll be going to boot camp sometime later this year…*tear* OH! I hope her next series has a guy as the main character. NG Life did that, and I think it’s a fine shojo.
By the way, does anyone know how to properly translate “ichakora”? I know what it is, but I don’t know how to translate it. I don’t come across that word a whole lot… Why are Finn’s words so hard to translate sometimes?!
I loved how this chapter touched on everyone (not everyone, but yeah…). I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to see any final moments of my favorite characters before it ended, but I got it all in this chapter. It was great^^. Granted, the ending seemed to lack something. Perhaps it was the skip. Plus it didn’t seem like anything had changed. It’s as if the festival had just happened, when really 8 months had gone by. *sigh…* I want extras.
Finally, I did this for my own fun: i
t's a list of my favorite moments for the characters.
