My life is currently in the odd state of "not much" and "a whole lot" happening at the same time, but I'm feeling rather blasé about it. It's probably best described as a "hurry up and wait" situation, except without the hurrying. ^_^ So anyway, here are some fun facts for the day:
1. Matsuda Seiko is going to be on "Bones". Which is, quite frankly, slightly bizarre. I have nothing else to say. (Except for the fact that they showed some "behind the scenes" footage on the news, and Emily Deschanel is, like, a foot taller than Seiko-san. It was kinda funny.)
2. My dad got a job as a model. No really. Apparently, the county where my parents live is building a new park and including a bust of some guy who was a local statesman/doctor/benefactor. And one of my parents' neighbors noted that said guy happened to look a lot like my dad. They only have a handful of sources to work from (a couple of paintings and an early photograph), and based on the photograph, my dad is apparently a dead ringer. So the sculptor asked if he could use my dad as a model for this bust, and my dad agreed. So in a year or two, there will be a new park with a bust of a guy that looks kinda like an old-timey statesman, and kinda like my dad. We all think it's pretty funny.
3. My dad loves "9". Not "The Nine" or "District 9". Just "9", the CG animated stitch-punk movie. I went home over the holidays and was very excited to rent this movie (which I ended up loving, although admittedly not as much as the original short, which was freaking brilliant). I normally watch movies with just my mom, as my dad only tends to watch movies if they involve A) historical figures (and then he's always disappointed by the historical inaccuracies and my mom and I have to remind him, "It's a fictional movie, not a documentary") or B) Scots. (His favorite movies, obviously, involve historical Scots.) But my dad ended up wandering into the living room as we were watching the original short, so he sat down and watched it with us. And then, much to my surprise, he apparently liked it so much that he attempted to watch the full movie by himself when Mommy and I were out shopping. Alas, he was foiled by the TV (he couldn't remember how to switch the input to DVD), and so my parents watched the movie together after I went home. My mom said that she cried at the ending (again), and my dad liked it so much that he actually started recommended it to all of his friends. So there you have it. A movie so good that even my dad loved it.
Having said that, the fact that he loved "9" isn't all THAT strange. It's more like... my dad's taste in fictional and purely fun entertainment is not always logical. While he'll like most anything with a serious historical twist, anything else is a complete crap shoot, which means that he sometimes gets hooked on the weirdest things. Like, about 7-8 years ago, he got really into watching reruns of "The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest" on Cartoon Network. I have no idea why. That, and "The Anna Nicole Smith Show." It seemed like he was always watching one or the other; it was a very embarrassing time for me.
