Need More Movies to Watch on Netflix

Dec 07, 2010 04:00

Hey guys!

My Netflix queue is down to 8 DVDs and I need to populate it with more things to watch asap only I don't know what I should put on there...

Please give me some recommendations! I have lots to scan and not much to entertain me. D:

I don't care what year a movie was made, I've watched and enjoyed short films made as far back as the 1890's.

So, when I watched the trailer after, I was all "OMG! If I had known that it would have ruined that part in the movie" XD It's weird how ad companies do that.

That's how I feel about the trailers for the Layton games. Especially the US ones. Ugh! It's best to avoid them. The Japanese trailers tend to be more careful about spoilers. However the second trailer that's normally released on release day is a little more spoilery than the first one but not as much as the US one.

ARGH! Romantic Comedies makes me want to punch it in the face if it had one! >:(

I've been avoiding Avatar becuase it seems to be big budget CG nonsense. Also I don't like how the..... blue... things look. :/

I love the first two Aliens! They definitely feel more like horror than traditional sci-fi. Ellen Ripley is one of the most badass female characters ever! The other two movies were... Not all that interesting. Like they were trying too hard.

It's more like a western than scifi

LOLOLOLOL!!!! XD OMG! Have you heard of Cowboys & Aliens!?!? When I first saw the trailer a couple weeks ago I thought it was a regular ol' Western and I thought, "Huh. That's... odd. A traditional western in these days?" Then I started seeing scenes that made me think it was a movie adaptation of Red Dead Redemption. I swear the shots were exactly the same. Then they showed that the cowboy had futuristic looking thing around his wrist and I was like "Wait a minute! That's not right! Isn't this supposed to be the 1800's!?" And holy shit alien spaceships started attacking this little western town. And I laughed so hard especially after they revealed the title. The combination is just so ridiculous I have to see it! XD

So is Firefly western in that sense? With tumbleweed, riding horses into the sunset and all that? XD  'Cause I see no idication of that on the covers at all. Or is it more like Cowboy Bebop?

I've never heard of IFC... :\

I should be getting American Psycho this weekend becuase Wild Wild West currently has a very long wait time.

Dead Man's Shoes is an intriguing title. I'll give that a watch. *adds*

Man on Wire sounds fascinating! I've heard of that guy before! *adds*

I never heard of This is England. Looks interesting. *adds*

I don't like the spy genre all that much but I do enjoy parodies of it so I'll give OSS 117 a try. *adds*

If Son of Rambow had been an American made movie I probably would've passed on it since America can't seem to make a decent comedy with children without it being stupid. >_<  I'll have to see how the English/French/Germans do. Most likely better than us. *adds*

I like period pieces for the sets and costumes. :)  It's not something I see in my daily life.
I'll give Queen Margot a chance. And I'll definatly be seeing Horseman on the Roof. The keyword was "plague". XD  *adds*

Unforgiven looks interesting. *adds*
Lonesome Dove seems to be well liked by everyone. I might give it a watch. *adds*

And no, I have not seen Fantasic Mr. Fox. It sounds vaguely familiar. I might have read a blurb about it in an animation magazine while it was in production a few years ago. *adds*

Thank you for all your recommendations! :D

If you watch any of them, I'm curious if you like them!
I used to trade movies and stuff (like manga and games) in college, so I always liked to know if my friends liked things- so I'd know what else I could recommend, or what I should beg forgiveness for XD

*laughs* OMG, right after I first got this reply from you, Jake told me he had recorded Avatar and that I had to watch it because he thought I'd think it was pretty at least DX I was putting it off too. I find that really hilarious; we're like the only 2 people in the world that didn't go see it XD It was *Meh* I didn't realize Sigourney Weaver (go Riply) was one of the main characters. She's always kind of awesome. So, it wasn't "bad," it just wasn't good either. I was a little bored. I think it might have been prettier on the big screen, and in 3D. I dunno.

"If Son of Rambow ... America can't seem to make a decent comedy with children without it being stupid"
It was maybe a little cheesy, but it was better than most of the genre I think. I'd just call it "cute"

IFC is just the Independent Film Chanel (of all things!) I had no idea they made movies, let alone one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Dude, I seriously don't know how to describe Firefly. They basically use space to go between planets... where they deliver supplies and rustle cattle and ride old fashioned trains and shit. It's.. just so weird! And there are no aliens or cyborgs! Even weirder for the space genre.

lol, I had never heard of Cowboys and Aliens! XD Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Sam Rockwell, really?! Okay, I'm seeing it.

Actually, Unforgiven isn't too old, in comparison with most westerns. I guess it was a movie that Clint Eastwood had either passed on when he was young, or wanted to do when he was young but didn't have the money. And Morgan Freeman was so cute in an interview about it because he was all "I always wanted to play a cowboy!"

From your list all I've seen so far are Man On Wire and American Psycho.

Man On Wire was really interesting. I can't believe the guy managed to pull that off. But then again security back then wasn't like how it is these days. I wish more people would do crazy cool shit like that.

I was knitting while watching American Psycho so I didn't give it my full attention but I liked it. I'll probably watch it again sometime in the future. Bussiness cards, indeed. One twisted guy.

Perhaps one day I'll watch Avatar and join everyone else. I'm curious about it but it's not a high priority. So many other wonderful things to watch.

I've never heard of the Independent Film Channel before. I would imagine they'd just show independent movies, not produce their own.

Firefly is now sounding like Futurama minus the aliens and robots but western. I watched a ton of Doctor Who with all its ridiculous aliens over the past month so I might as well give Firefly a try since it's available to watch instantly. XD
