The Bronx Zoo! :D

Over the weekend I went to the Bronx Zoo with spunkywulf  and her bf. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and couldn't be better. The last time I went was with my aunt, my cousin and her summer camp a few years ago when it was ridiculously hot and miserable. I don't have any memory of actually seeing any animals at all. It was soooo hot.

On the way there we had a little navigation fail (which wasn't my fault this time!) and had to take a different route so we lost a little time. You know who you are. :|

I took a bunch of pictures but my camera really sucks so a lot of them turned out kinda crappy... made picking out what photos to share much easier, lol. (They didn't look quite so blurry on my camera though.)

So this is... I'm not sure what building this was because we quickly walked through it but I really liked the architecture of this building (and others) with all the animal statues decorating them. The inside was nice too.  I thought it looked like some fancy woven basket.

Apparently they allow peacocks to walk around freely at the zoo. Here's the first one we encountered. Later on I chased one because I couldn't help myself but it ran into an area I couldn't get too and was safe.

The first place we headed to was the Butterfly Garden. They had these cute sculptures along the path to the building.

Inside the building there were all these little dishes set up with bits of melon that the butterflies love. They're so pretty and cute. :3
There was also a nursery where all the caterpillars and butterflies in the chrysalis stage are kept and taken care of until they can join the adults in the garden.

There was pond filled with this fancy variety of koi (I think, I can't remember what the zoo keeper said about them...)
They look more like oversized goldfish to me though.

When we exited the building it looked like a butterfly graveyard where all the ones that made an attempt at freedom got caught on some sort of flypaper. XD (Don't worry, they aren't real.)

When we left we passed this pond that had these interesting animal/insect statues.

We then made our way to the Mouse House. It was filled with all these super adorable little rodents, unfortunately the lighting was really dim in there and I didn't have a tripod to keep my camera steady so just about all the photos I attempted to take didn't turn out well. :(
I forgot what these cute darlings were but they look so adorable and soft.

Then we went to the Reptile House after meeting up with some others.

The lighting in here was much better so I was able to take many photos. :)
Awww.... sleepy turtle is sleepy. Isn't he precious? X3

Lazy lizards are lazy.

There was this tank that had a bunch of these adorable teeeny tiny little yellow frogs.

Here are a couple poison dart frogs. They have beautiful coloring but are toxic and really dangerous. D:

I can never tell alligators and crocodiles apart so I'm not sure what this is but it was really really big. There were a couple more swimming in the water.

There were a bunch of little juvenile gators/crocs just relaxing. They're so cute when they're small.

This lizard was really active. It was rather difficult to get a shot of it. I'm sorry it's kinda blurry.

Here's a few snakes. The first one is some sort of jungle tree snake just chillin' in some branches.
I'm not sure what the second one is but its eye looks creepy. I think it was when I was taking this photo Spunky's bf crept up behind me and scared me. Jerk! lol. XD
The last one is a couple different snakes. I think their skin looks cool.

A couple lizards just relaxing.

A gecko. A shame it wasn't closer so I could take a better picture. I think their toes are really cute. I used to want to have gecko for a pet but lizards are more delicate and require more maintenance to take care of them so I didn't get one.

Last photo of reptiles. I don't remember what this was called but it shell looks awfully dangerous doesn't it? I wouldn't want to fall and land on that. D:

We left and we made our way to the World of Birds. On the way there we passed a cool totem pole and a brown bear swimming and playing with a ball. We saw the polar bear too but he was being lazy and boring.

We entered the World of Birds when it was feeding time for these birds. I think they were called Bee-Eaters or something like that.

These two birds were just preening and relaxing until...

this bird regurgitated.... something. Pebbles... maybe?

Then all the birds in this tank wanted to go check out the vomit and pick at it.

I like the feathers on this birds head. It reminds me of Phoenix Wright's spiky hair. XD

Argh.. I took a bazillion photos of this male bird-of-paradise doing his courtship display but all of them were really blury except this one of his back.

Spunky, here's the cutest, roundest bird I could find in my photos. I'm sorry it's so crappy. :(  I also didn't get any of the button quails. They were too far away to take any decent photos so I didn't bother.

This habitat was showing what deforestation is like. The blue bird with it's crazy crest is so cool.
In this same area there was this little white bird that made this funny sound every time it hopped. I now wish I had taken video of it...

I don't know what this is but I like the coloring. It was much more vibrant in person.

There were a few of these birds flying around in the open aviary. It looks so odd, kinda like a feathered dinosaur. The photo of the bird on the railing makes me laugh so much, she looks so silly. Durrr... lol. XD

I think this one is some sort of junglefowl. It's like a big fabulous chicken with shiny feathers and rainbow comb. XD

Gosh! Look at the colors on this one! He's pretty colorful isn't he? His beak is hilarious too. Like some doofy-looking toucan.

I don't know what these are but I love the blue.

I think this is a black cockatoo... Am I right, bro? You would know.

The rest is of one of the areas of the aviaries. I love tropical plants. They're so pretty and exotic.

After we left the World of Birds we went to ride the Wild Asia Monorail. The line was long but we made it in time before they closed the line for closing time. I didn't bother to take photos since the lighting wasn't that great at that time, my camera doesn't have an awesome lens so I wouldn't have captured much and I was tired of taking photos.

After that we left the zoo since it was closing/closed and went home.

I had a great time and saw many awesome animals.
Thanks for inviting me, Spunky! :D
