Anti-OTP: Mina/Quincey

Dec 01, 2006 23:39

*Mina tends to spend more time indoors than outdoors, but it was such a beautiful day. So she's outside, sitting in the grass with her hair down. It's probably not quite proper, as women are supposed to enjoy gardens sitting demurely on benches, as benches were made for sitting in gardens, and they keep one's skirts from ending up around one's ( Read more... )

*Quincey pauses, watching her, for just a moment -- then he clears his throat, realizing he should make his presence known* Mrs. Harker. Hello.

*Mina smiles when she sees him, as he is a dear friend and she is always glad to see him* Hello, Quincey. Really, there's no need for such formality.

*He shrugs, giving an apologetic smile, and sits on the ground near her* Every now and then I remember my manners, but it does feel silly after all that we've all been through together.

It is silly. Not with other people, of course, but with the six of us...if brothers and sisters do not speak that way to one another, why should good friends do so? I know that all of you are closer to me than siblings. *she takes a hold of his hand then; a slightly improper but innocent gesture*

[Typist: We really should have done some sort of Jonathan/Mina/Lucy/Arthur/Quincey/Jack thing, because they really are all OT6, if such a thing exists. :)]

*he gives her hand a little squeeze, an innocent enough gesture in its own way, though not without anything behind it* You're right about that. After a point, some things aren't any breach of etiquette -- they're just sense.

Typist: They really are. XD Although a thread with that many people could get impressively confused.

*she smiles, partly at the comment and partly at the squeezing of her hand.* Yes, exactly. *she lies down in the grass then, still holding his hand* It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

[Typist: That's true but...well, I imagine it woudl be quite worth it. Perhaps next Anti-OTP weekened. :)]

*she just can't stop smiling, can she?* I could say the same.

I'm glad. *can't either, so it works!* We all missed you so, before you came here.

*but now the smile is just a bit sad* I missed you too. I'm sorry - Jonathan and I both are, I think - that we didn't spend more time with you and Arthur and Jack after...everything. It's better that we're all together now.

Yes. And now we are, there's no need to be sorry for anything at all. It's better to be glad for things now.

Thank you. And you're right. We do have many things to be glad for now. *smiles at him and takes a hold of his other hand*

Exactly. Things are so much improved. Art and Lucy will be married, and . . . *he hesitates, as (much as he hates to admit it) that doesn't make him as glad as it ought to* And everything will come out just fine.

*she notices the hesitation and understands it, though she is not certain whether to mention it or not* Yes, they certainly are. *pause. Somewhat awkwardly,* Quincey, I'm sorry for how difficult all this must be with Lucy and Arthur.

It's all right. I don't mind so much. *smiles, though it's a smaller, tighter smile than it was before* I don't know that I believe there's any man who deserves her. But if there is, it's Art.
