ASL Humorous Tale

Funny story from today. So I've been teaching baby Ave (15 months now) some sign language. And her dad has really been encouraging of it! He taught her "I love you" 2 weeks ago and she really picked it up! She says it all the time to us, using an "L" handshape because the pinky isn't quite coming up yet. Which is awesome!

And with my deaf Ed background, I'm always saying what she says aloud to her so she is exposed to the audio meaning of the signs to help her with developing auditory-speech skills too. At least, I thought that's why I did it.

But apparently there is some of that volunteer sign language interpreting in there too. Here is where it gets a little silly.

So I bought something from a stranger on Facebook market place. I was holding Ashleigh and when they went to leave she waved "bye bye" and I voiced it. Then she switched to "I love you" and I didn't voice it because it'd not quite appropriate to say to a stranger . But I found myself feeling really guilty internally for not voicing

Like...I was worried about interpreting ethics and how it isn't fair to not voice everything the deaf person is signing. LOL! It is not fair not to voice for the deaf person! Which doesn't apply to my hearing baby, lol, but I still felt the guilt for it. Lol!!
