hello, i was prodded to post, as it's been quite a while, so here i am! ok, an update on my life:
i finished my summer job about a month ago, was working in the botanical gardens for the final 3 weeks, which i mostly quite enjoyed (deadhead the dahlias on misty mornings was not fun, because i got SOAKED). i helped organize a volunteer luncheon, which was a big success. working in the entrancefee-booth was not so much fun, but not as bad as people made it out to be, and i got a lot of knitting done- finishing a ribbed scarf for my brother (i think it was like 9 feet long, augh) and an apple hat for our friends' new baby. both presents were given when we drive up to seattle for the boy's brother's wedding. i actually knitted a little shrug sweater thing to wear over my dress too, yay! it was a nice wedding, and it was good to see the boy's family again, and our seattle friends, who we miss a lot.
i sent in my application for a limited-duration substitute teachers license, receiving it about a week ago. since then i've subbed twice in the HS.
yesterday was quite an adventure, because not only did i actually have to teach the class (not just "take roll and press play" like last time), at the beginning of my 2nd period, someone tripped on the electrical cord, killing the computer. we couldn't boot it back up, so i had to write what should have been a power point presentation up on the board.
the last period just sucked, students were obnoxious, and i had to show & read printed off pages of the p.point, which upset them, because apparently they can't take notes unless they can copy down the words. idiots. 7th period is always the worst anyway, because it's almost time to go home. it also sucks being the sub because you don't know all the rules and standard practices, like i didn't know who to call to try to fix the damn computer. one boy started messing with it, and this girl freaked out, "well, the sub shouldn't have let him touch the computer, he's not allowed to touch it!" yeah because there was a big sign on his forehead saying "DON'T LET ME MESS WITH THE COMPUTER, EVEN IF I OFFER HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT." bitch. finally i said "just go to the office and find someone who can actually help with this!" since her repeated button-pressing wasn't achieving anything.
i hope i get to sub for elementary school at some point, it seems like it would be more fun. also i look like a grown-up to them, not another student....
our garden really, really kicked ass this summer, it's still pumping out tomatoes, though a lot of them are succumbing to slugs and worms and then rotting off the vine in this fall weather, but YAY for our yard! still lots of projects to do (the boy now decided we need a garage, now that he finally finished the shed in the same location), but things are coming along. and the dogs are pretty fantastic.
the boy is currently in so-cal working at one of the many fires. he left a week ago, and might be back by sunday. i am bummed that now we can't go to eli's kick-ass halloween party in portland this weekend, especially since he is dressing as gay clubbin' dumbledore complete with pink sparkly robe and rainbow cape. i was going to finally sew the school robe for my luna costume, but since we're not going, i'm just going to wear an alice in wonderland costume i already have for the party tonight. speaking of which, i need to go bake my black russian cake so i can shape it like a bat. adios! (i'm taking spanish too, did i mention that?)
