We recently moved. We bought a cute house in a neighborhood close to our old one.
With this move I decided to give something up. I decided to stop collecting old Pyrex and other various bowls, etc. I started collecting for a couple of reasons. 1-I wanted to find the iconic Primary set my Mom had when I was a kid, 2-I wanted to stop using so much plastic in my kitchen.
I accomplished those goals, but kept going. I had emassed quite a collection. 99% of it was from thrift stores. Mostly it sat in my garage on a shelf. Those pieces were sent back to Goodwill. I kept a few pieces. I kept a couple of bowls my Mom had hunted down for me. I kept the pieces I use on a daily basis. I kept an Ironstone bowl that belonged to my Great Grandmother. I kept a huge pottery bowl that my Mom used to make bread. I kept a bowl my sister had found for me.
Pretty much everything else is gone. And, I'm good with that. Actually I'm really good with that. I'm going to stay away from thrift stores for a while, so as not to slip back when I find "just one."
I'm not done collecting kitchen things. I'm just going back to my roots. When I first starting collecting, I collected Hall Refrigeratorware. I have quite a few pieces of the Westinghouse line. My nirvana moment will be when I find the much rarer Montgomery Ward line. It's out there, I just to keep looking...
