Starry☆Sky episode 1 [review]

Christmas is near and today Starry☆Sky anime is finally release as well. The anime is broadcast on Animate TV so I went to their site to watch. After all, being a fan of the game, I just got to watch this even though I know it wouldn't be great. Overall it was decent and fun to watch, if you simply don't have a high expectation that is =)

It was sad that the anime will only be about 10 mins long for each episodes. After finished the 1th episode, it left me feel empty. There were so many potential the anime could have given, but DEEN decided to direct it so boring. Although they manage to put lots of great things into the story, there was something quite not gripping like how the game did. (Maybe it was the animation or the direction of the story..)The entire episode is focus on Yoh where he tells us about Tsukiko, how he met her, his reason to attend Seigatsu Academy and also it reveals about his parents dream to go to America. Okay, so it was alright overall but I still feel its missing something.

Yoh, I can't take you seriously when you're like this... Try to be Romeo

The beginning of the anime shows when Tome Yoh (Hikaru Midorikawa) was in Japan for the first time. Being young and innocent, he looked up at the sky and love the view of it.  While looking at the star he admires with his huge telescope, he tripped and lost the telescope somewhere in the brushes. Cheesy much as a little Tsukiko found it for him and they become friend since then. Then it goes back to the current Yoh who is in France. He's thinking back and thinking about Tsukiko in Japan. He wants to meet her again and confess his feelings. Yes, he lov- oh wait.. not that yet.

The story switch back and forward between him entering the school and his request for attending the school. We get to know that Seigatsu Academy is an astronomy specialized school. Which used to be an all boy school but now co-ed. So far, there are only one girl who is in this school and she is Yoh's classmate. Her name is Tsukiko Yahisa and it's the same girl Yoh have always wanted to meet. Strangely his homeroom teacher is Naoshi, which I actually assumed he would appear later.

Tsukiko look cute, I like her eyes and her voice but.... (by Fukumi Orikasa)

His parents agreed to let him go to Japan but there is a limited time for being there. This doesn't bother Yoh as he only wants to see Tsukiko for one last time. Yoh's parent couldn't reject his request, consider that it was his first time to ever asked for anything.  What a good child...

Yoh, why so serious?

In the classroom, he met Tsukiko and went up to her while she introduce herself. Yoh said this wasn't their first time that they met and then the anime just ends there where we got to see Tsukiko's face. (Since almost the entire episode barely shows her face, a little was shown when she was younger. Seriously, if she doesn't have eyes. I don't know this anime anymore.)

Kazukiiii
Though's: What attracts me in the episode (for me) is when the other main characters (all Winter & Summer) were shown for a mere seconds, right at the part when Nao introduced the school course. Hoshizuki and Iku isn't to be found but that probably is planned for later episodes. My favourite scene of all in this episode would be when they finally show Tsukiko's face. That was really great and nicely animated! Though I found their character design to be awful, in 1 min they look alright, then the next it looked all wicked creepy. Even the small Miyaji appearance look the worst to me. The only good character design is Tsukiko in my eyes.

Other than the horrible animation, the episode overall was an alright start. Nothing special honestly. It felt like a slice of life series more than romance/shoujo but hey it's just me. I look forward to the other arc though (Iku probably will be interesting to me, *cough*rapids arc *cough*) and rest of the casts appearance. Also I was glad that Hikaru didn't done the voice for the child Yoh, it was Yuki Kaida and she did it great. Yoh's parents appearance surprise me as they were just recently revealed in the After Spring game. I wonder if we get to see more side characters with just this short times. And more new characters apperance like Haru from After Spring *cross finger*. The ED theme song 「Starry☆Days」 by Eba is great too well even though it is instrumental. And don't make me mention about the engrish in ED. It'll just make this post longer than it should xD

All in all, I enjoyed it. Even though I still feel like there are missing something, I quite can say what it was. I'll just have to see how everything will play out after some episodes. But for now, I'll just spam screenshot the bishie that shows up in the anime. Enjoy ~
