I was queueing at TEData to pay for my internet - actually the first queue I've ever seen in Egypt, so my inner Brit was placated - but it was not to be. This woman pushed in front of me and the boy in front of me. I wouldn't normally do anything but I'd waited a long time and I was in a hurry to get to a meeting - so I tapped her on the shoulder and pointed out that she was pushing in.
She then explained to me that there is one queue in the internet shop for women, and one for men. Obviously I was massively embarrassed and apologised like mad. But seriously? A gendered phone bill queue? Why?
On another note, this blog -
the Angry Arab News Service - might be good for anyone with an interest in Arab politics and current affairs. It's definitely angry.
The number of articles the Arab-Anglophone blogosphere translates for the benefit of us doofuses is amazing. I don't know what I'd do without it.
