I've recently discovered that babies are where it's at. Hey, guys, did you know about these incredibly cool things called babies?
After a year of knowing my nephew Joseph, he's finally climbed into my heart. It's taken a while because I am spectacularly un-maternal (no way do I want a Jojo of my own). I've enjoyed seeing him many times, and found him aborable, but didn't dwell on it. You know, before, he was basically this cute blob that pooed and couldn't eat without smearing his face with goo. Why would I want to spend time with someone like that? And actually, he's still like that now. And who knows, may remain so all his life. I've had boyfriends like that.
But basically this one-year-old is a complete flirt, and I'm in love. I've always been more than willing to babysit, but have only lately felt really properly confident at looking after him (I'm ashamed to say I changed my first nappy only yesterday). Yesterday I found myself telling big C and Martin to go out for dinner on Saturday night because I wanted to roll around with Jojo again.
Yesterday I went over to do the baby-relay with mum. She does Tuesday mornings, and for the last two weeks I've been taking over on the afternoons. Of course mum and I just get chatting and she doesn't leave, like she's supposed to, till big C gets home. Joseph gets overexcited because all his girlfriends are in the house at once. How flattered was I, non-baby-person, when he started bawling as I left?
Rolling about with him on C's bed is huge fun. He has a habit of throwing himself face-first on the duvet, which was alarming at first but obviously painless for him; he likes romping around and cuddling and pulling hair. He loves hair. We're trying to teach him not to pull, because he pulls so hard, which is a shame as it's adorable when he grabs your hair and smooshes it in his face. But it's fucking painful and he'll be a handful at nursery if it's not sorted out.
He's into technology in a scarily 'not in my day' sort of way. He picks up my mobile and echolalias into it (he's ONE!); C keeps on opening the DVD player to find a rice cake deposited in the tray.
I'm so happy I get to see him on Saturday. :D
