Book Project: Count of Monte Cristo.
Iread this book in Finnish and really liked it. I hope that someday I could read it in French.
Count of monte Cristo
I stole this book from my parents because I liked it the first time I read it. The plot is very intreeaging indeed. It start from Marseille before the hundred day empire. Edmond Dantes has just returned from a long seatrip with a letter apointed to someone in Paris. The letter is from Elba where Napoleon is waiting... Before delivering this letter Edmond is going to get married to his love Mercedes.
But at wedding he is arrested and taken to chateu d' If a prison in an island that can be seen from Marseille. And there he remains for twenty five long years waiting to get out and see Mercedes again.
But Mercedes has married Fernand a soldier who has become a general and count.
Fernand is one of three people that comdemned Edmond and does not know what waits for him when count of Monte Cristo saves his son in the carnival of Rome.
Edmond Dantes
Edmond Dantes is a charming chap until he finds out about the three friends that betrayed him. Then he comes consumed by revenge and anger. He changes to the count of monte Cristo who is cruel, powerful and without consience. But sometimes Edmond comes out. He saves a daugther of his enemy to make his friend happy. And in the end he realizes thet revenge does not bring happiness.
Edmond tells us what hatred can do to a person. His story is shocking and horrifying. He suffered much and wanted justice. In this book taking justice in your own hands is rewarded with happiness after ine has forgiven to those who wronged him. At the Edmond is good guy not bad. He has a good heart.

First of three: Danglars the banker
At the begining he is the book keeper at Edmond ship. He envies Edmond for he is made to Captain at the age of 19 and is marrying a beautyful girl. He invents a plan to give Edmond away as a napoleonist. He writes the letter and encourages Fernand to send anonyously.
When Edmond get out of jail Danglars has become a rich banker. He has a daugther who is engaged to Fernand's son. Edmond destoyes the engagement. Danglarses sin is greed. So to punish him Edmond drives his bank out of business.
Second of three: Fernand Mondego
He is the cousin Mercedes and loves her. He is jealous of Edmond marrying Mercedes. He send the incriminating letter. And if that is not enough he eventually makes Mercedes his wife after returnign from war.
By Edmonds release he has changed his name to de Morcerf and become a general for his actions in the Grecian war. He has also gathered a fortune. But he has a secret. He sold his grecian leader to the Turks and gave his wife and daugther to slave traders. Somehow Monte Cristo finds this daugther and in that lies the key to Fernand destruction.
Third of three: Villefort
Villefort is the royal judge at Marseille and he is the one that puts Edmond in jail and keeps him there for years and years to protect his own name and father.
The years passing make him the head of royal courthouse. After loosing his first wife he marries again but the child born from this marriege is destitute compared to his daugther. So when the mother of this litlle boy is given poison by Monte Cristo the peace of Villeforts house is gone. First his mother-in-law marquise of Saint-meran dies, then a servant and finally it seems that the daugther dies too. After finding out who is behind the murders Villefort looses everything, even his mind.
Thougths
This is a book about revenge. It is dark story but lovely one. It is romance in the true meaning of the word. It's anarchy... But also love.
From this book we notice that even in darkness there is something we can do. Wait and hope.
