am having fun being 'at home'. Yes, it's winter, and I'm not used to living in the cold, but who cares. Yes there is snow on the ground, but, for the most part, it is not too bad. I'm retired now...looking through different 'eyes' at my surroundings, so ordinary and yet so welcoming. Who would have thought...'
When you're little, your town is your world and your neighborhood is just that....warm, safe, friendly, plenty of friends, kick the can, trick or treating, showing off what Santa left under the tree. There the memories remain, safe and warm. Prom night, graduation, Sunday school, boyfriends, parking on the country roads, dances every Saturday, sock hops each day in the gym, full skirts, bobby socks, and saddle shoes.
It's all here....in my mind and in my heart.
So it's fun just 'be'in home'. Speaking to folks on the street, smiling at old friends and friends of your , now gone parents, in the grocery store. Doing the 'remember when' with your brother and sis-in-law, and checking out family pictures when the big maples in the back yard were only saplings.
Seems we are all 'ready to get out of town' when late teens and early 20's arrive.....but then, when we do settle down to raise families, it is just this kind of town we look for....so our kids can remember, when it's their turn to 'come home'. tootle mimi
