What I did on my vacation

Vacations were meant to be fun, relaxing, entertaining and memorable. Ours was all of that and more. We went to Arkansas and Missouri by way of Indiana. I know, I know, we live in Illinois, why go to Arkansas by way of Indiana? Seemed like a good idea at the time!
We took Bob’s truck so the girls would have the car and also incase we had to bring something big back from Missouri.
The weather was good until we got to Branson, MO. After that it rained. We had bought a container with a lid to put our luggage in incase it did rain. Good idea!
So anyway there we were on 65 heading south in the rain through the Osarks. Destination, Clinton, Arkansas.
It is getting dark and it is raining. It was a warm day so it is a bit foggy. Bob decides to turn on his newly installed fog lamps. He pushes the button on the dash and a BRIGHT red light comes on. Clinton is approximately 90 miles from Branson. If the roads were straightened out it would be 30 miles. After two hours of driving on steep inclines, 9% grades and winding roads (in the rain and fog) a sign appears out of nowhere announcing that the next 20 miles are “Crooked and steep!” This was more than my truck-driving husband could take. He asks in a somewhat loud and nervous voice, “What were the last 50_______ miles? And who the ____ designed this bright red_______ light for these fog lights that don’t work?” I didn’t think he had noticed that BRIGHT red light.
After several minutes of laughter from both of us we began to feel better. And after two more hours of driving we made it safely to Barb and Wayne’s house. That was Friday night. We stayed until Monday morning and Bob did not leave the house the entire time we were there. I don’t think he liked the roads!
We went to Willow Springs, Missouri next. If you don’t count the 4-hours we had to stay at the bar waiting for Marci to get off work, and the old lady who ralphed up the last 15-bottles of beer she drank all over herself and the girl in the corner who proudly announced that she was in danger of being shot by a jealous husband and oh yes, THE TOILET in Marci’s house! We enjoyed our visit with her too. What we didn’t enjoy were the ticks we both found on us when we got home. One each!
We really did have a good time. We talked so much we NEVER had the radio on. It was good to spend time with my husband.
We made some good memories and had a good time. The thing I appreciate the most is I’m glad I’m not a hillbilly!
