This week was my first full week back at work, complete with 336 students. This is our first year with third graders, and I never realized how young a third grader can be. Besides being very small, they are are also very immature compared to the fourth and fifth graders I'm used to. Here's an example of this:
I had my first individual counseling session with a third grader this week, and I was working my magic, talking about how she shows her emotions. She said that when she's feeling scared, she likes to hide and be alone for a while. We were discussing this further when I had a knock at my door, and I had to step out of the room for a minute to discuss something in the hall. When I returned to my office, the student I was talking to was no where to be found. I called her name several times and was just about to look out into the hallway for her when I heard giggling from under my conference table. There she was, under my table, telling me that she just wanted to show me how she hides. I am still laughing.
Oh, and by the way, in about 5-6 years when you hear that Lafourche Parish has it's first serial killer, don't worry, because I saw him at Wal-Mart two nights ago, and I got a good look at his face and should be able to give the police sketch artist a decent description of what he looked like when he was around 11 years old and standing behind me in the checkout aisle with his mom.
That is all I've got.
