Compilation of Adoration Chapter 2

Adventure

“You know, you aren’t very useful,” Oga commented, striking down an orc with a swing of his broadsword.

Furuichi flinched as another goblin attacked the barrier before glaring at his companion. “Oh really?” he growled. “Who’s the one making sure that the goblins don’t overwhelm us by making them come to you one at a time?”

Oga snorted dismissively, stomping on his foes with ease. “Still can’t fight worth a damn,” he muttered with a laugh.

“I chose to focus on healing magic and protective spells,” Furuichi shot back. “You know, you wouldn’t be able to fight as well without me, dumbass! Who’d heal your wounds if I wasn’t here?”

“What type of idiot comes on a quest without knowing how to fight?! Idiot, Idiot Furuichi,” the warrior answered without stopping his assault, the mob of monsters shrinking exponentially. “You know, you should thank me. Not many people would let someone like you join them on their adventure.”

“Oga! I didn’t even want to go in the first place!! You freaking dragged me out of my house!!”

Part-time

“Hello, welcome to Starbugs, what can I get for you?” Furuichi asked with a forced smile. God, his feet were killing him and he hated opening shifts at Starbugs; all the angry morning people came in then.

“Uh, yea,” the girl replied with a pout. Through experience, Furuichi just knew that she’d have some crazy combination drink; oh how right he was.

“Yea,” the girl repeated, flipping her hair. “I’ll have a Chai Frapponi, with half-skim and half-soy and no sugar, honey instead. And uh, can I get the fair-trade tea… Mama Odila’s all natural spice brew.”

Furuichi resisted the urge to throw his pen. “All our teas are fair-trade but I’ll see if that specific brand is there,” he replied with another smile. “What size would you like?”

“Small, duh,” she said flippantly. “I’m trying to watch my weight.”

‘If you’re on a diet, just DON’T get one!’ he wanted to shout, instead he said. “Right-o. Small Chai Frapponi with honey, and half-soy, half-skim. That’ll be 470 yen.”

When making the drink, Furuichi deliberately took his sweet time; it wasn’t as though the line was too long. All he did was smile as the woman complained of terrible service! After the woman left with a huff, Furuichi prayed that the next costumer be someone with a simple order.

“Hello, welcome to Starbugs, what can I get you?” Furuichi said with a fake peppy voice, not looking up from the counter.

“Yea,” a familiar voice droned. “Can I get a small Hojicha latte, and an oat fudge bar for the baby-”

Furuichi snapped up to see Oga’s grinning face. “And your number sounds good too.”

His co-worker, Tomo, raised her brow at him as Furuichi attempted to will his blush away.

“Oga!” Furuichi hissed, embarrassed at being seen in his uniform. “I told you not to come see me!”

“What can I say Idiot Furuichi,” Oga replied with a shrug, petting Baby Beel’s head. “It was too hard to resist.”

After Oga left with a wave, Tomo turned to him. “Ok, who was that and how can I get his number?” she asked, staring at the retreating back of the delinquent. She grabbed Furuichi’s green apron before pulling him towards her. “Furuichi, I can save him from the mean streets of delinquency and gangster life and bring him back to the straight and narrow.”

Furuichi turned to his co-worker. “Tomo,” he said, gripping her shoulder. “I can promise you, he doesn’t need saving from the mean streets of gangster life.”

Lottery

Tucking her short hair behind her ear, Furuichi scanned the crowd for her younger sister; the baker’s daughter cursed her height as she struggled to look over the heads of the taller girls, blatantly ignoring the buxom, blonde woman in the front of the stage, droning on about the empire. The woman’s dress was crisp and of black satin, so different from the dusty, faded clothes found in the crowd.

Finally ending her speech, she turned to the silent group in front of her. “Now then,” she spoke into the mike. “Let us choose our two brave contenders for Sector 4!”

Her high heels clip-clopped on the wooden stage as she walked to the bowl; she turned to the people with a smile saying, “Who will be our lucky female winner?”

She pulled out a single slip of paper. “Honoka Furuichi,” she called out.

‘No,’ Furuichi thought, snapping her head around to catch a glimpse of her sister. Honoka stepped from the crowd, her large brown eyes wide with fear. She shook as the two guards flanked her, praying for a miracle.

Furuichi pushed past the other girls and ran towards the trio. “Honoka!” she cried out, clawing against the guard who stopped her trek. “Honoka!”

“Yuki!” Honoka cried out, turning to face her sister.

The blonde woman turned and faintly nodded to a guard near her, and the man aimed his rifle at the disruptor, only to stop when Furuichi screamed out, “I volunteer! I volunteer!”

Furuichi pushed the guard away and wrapped her arms around her young sister. “I volunteer to be this year’s lottery winner, so…” she said, turning to the blonde woman.

“Then, come on up,” the blonde stated with a nod, lifting her hand to the sniper behind her.

“Yuki,” Honoka whispered, trying to hold on to Furuichi’s shirt. “Yuki, don’t go.”

“Honoka, get back in the crowd,” she replied with a hiss, pushing her sister back.

When Furuichi got to the stage, the woman gestured her to her side. “So,” the blonde said. “State your name.”

“Takayuki Furuichi,” she replied, her mind still unable to comprehend what she had just done.

“That’s your sister?” the buxom woman asked. “I’d be willing to bet my favorite umbrella that she is.”

“Yes, yes.”

The blonde smiled, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Well then, please welcome Takayuki Furuichi as this year’s female lottery winner! May all the luck be with you.”

Wanton

After the insanity with Baby Beel, the Ishiyama delinquents got along well enough that even 5 years later, they still met up once in a while to eat and drink. Himekawa, Natsume, Kanzaki, Tojo, Furuichi and Oga, were currently in Himekawa’s luxurious penthouse, drinking to their heart’s content.

“Oh, Tojo-senpai,” Furuichi slurred, sliding his slender fingers down the other male’s biceps. “You are sooo buff.”

“Uh, Thanks Furuichi,” Tojo replied with a blush. “It’s ‘cause I work at a construction site.”

“Oh, you work with your hands,” Furuichi purred, pulling himself closer to Tojo. “I like that.”

Watching as Furuichi drunkenly wrap himself around Tojo, Oga resisted the urge to punch something. For fuck sakes, Furuichi was such a lightweight.

“Sorry guys,” Oga said, scratching his head. “Idiot Furuichi gets like this when he’s extremely drunk.”

“I’ve never seen him this drunk before,” Natsume commented with a smile. “Bad week?”

“I-I’m not drunk but yes, it’s been a bad week!” Furuichi hissed like an offended cat. “It’s just because Tojo-san so hot and I’m horny and I haven’t had sex in like…like… two weeks ‘cause…’cause Oga was going to some stupid demon thing! And I wanna fuc-”

“Ok, that’s enough,” Oga said, lifting Furuichi up like a sack of potatoes and tossing him over his shoulders. He turned to the other occupants of the room. “I’m going to go; I think Idiot Furuichi needs to sleep this off.”

As the door slammed shut, Kanzaki got his voice back first. “Wait… did Furuichi just say he was horny because Oga…..” Kanzaki started to say, only to be cut off by Natsume.

“Now, now,” he said, lifting up another can of beer. “Let’s not worry about that.”

With Kanzaki’s cry of “Let’s drink the night away!”, the party raged on; as the party continued, Tojo pulled out his phone and dialed Kaoru’s number. “Yo, Kaoru, you think I got a chance with Furuichi?” Tojo asked sincerely.

Locomotion

“You made a really stupid mistake, Idiot Furuichi,” Oga stated, taking a sip of water. Outside, the green forest flew past them, the train barreling at 600km/hr. “You can’t fight or anything.”

“I know,” she replied, her body tense and her eyes red. “I know.”

Her fellow “lottery winner” turned towards her, his dark eyes boring into her profile. “I mean,” the brunette continued. “You aren’t strong, and you can’t fight. And for a baker’s daughter, you’re really skinny… like a bird.”

Furuichi felt something snap within her; she whipped around to glare at the nonchalant face of Tatsumi Oga. “I know! I know I’m not like you!” she growled. “I can’t take on 40 men and beat them to the ground and I can’t hunt and I can’t use weapons. So what do you want me to say?! That I have no chance?! You want me to just give up and die?!”

Strong arms wrapped around her, and Furuichi tumbled into Oga’s arms. “No, you definitely have a chance,” Oga said, his voice muffled by her hair. “You might not be strong like me but you’re fast. And you’re stubborn.”

Furuichi looked up to see Oga smile at her. Granted, his smile looked as though he was about to murder a baby and scared the crap out of her but she took the gesture for what it was; a genuine (albeit awkward) attempt to make her feel better.

Oga carded through her white hair. “If you just hold on to that stubbornness, you’ll survive,” he added, pulling her tight against him. The last part Oga whispered into her hair, and Furuichi wasn’t able to hear it. “I’ll never let you die.”

Aegis

Oga watched with wide eyes as Furuichi pushed him away from the glinting knife, tumbling down and gripping his wounded side. He remained frozen as the rival delinquents surrounded him.

The delinquent with the knife laughed, kicking at Furuichi’s side. “Whoa, did that weak-ass pussy actually shield you?” he asked with a chortle. “What an idiot.”

Blinded by rage, Oga snapped the knife-wielding delinquent’s leg, smiling darkly as he screamed in pain. The dark-haired male gingerly lifted Furuichi up and glared at the group of terrified bastards.

“If you value your lives,” he growled. “You’ll let me through before I smash your legs like I did to that trash.”

It was easy to say, the other delinquents made a clear path for him to go through.

Revenge could wait, Furuichi needed a doctor, damn it.

Barista

Oga loved watching Furuichi’s hands as he made espresso drinks; though it wasn’t required, Furuichi always made latte art on his drinks. As he poured the milk, he’d twist and turn the handle of the cup gently to create the white, foamy art; other times, he’d go further and etch small patterns in the drink, his long, pale fingers holding the stick with delicate ease.

He also came because Furuichi just looked fantastic in the green apron and black attire.

“You know, you can go,” Furuichi said for the fifth time in a row. “Seriously, you’re ruining the atmosphere with your presence. I won’t be done for another 30 minutes.”

He looked at Beel still munching on an oat bar. “Beel’s not done eating,” he answered. “Besides, it’s not like you hate me being here, idiot Furuichi.”

“You’re so right,” Furuichi’s pink haired co-worker… Tomi? Totsy? Toki? Whatever said, shoving Furuichi away. “You can stay as long as you want.”

Oga stared at her as she threw herself to him and grabbed his hands from across the counter. Baby Beel also stared up in shock, the treat still in his hand. “Dabuh?” he squeaked out.

“You can come to me anytime,” she breathed out, rubbing his hand. “I’ll be here for you.”

“Uh, right,” Oga answered back. “Got it.”

The girl was fucking creepy as hell, with her big hair and huge eyes. Maybe he’d try to convince his boyfriend to switch shifts next time because Oga did not want to deal with her every time he came to pick up Furuichi.

Coal

“Hello, I am Takeo Furuna, announcing the entrances of this year’s tributes,” the quirky announcer cheered from her stage. “As per tradition, the Sectors had a draw for the order of their entrances! Let’s get the celebration started!!”

The crowd cheered as a favorite to win, Sector 2, entered dressed in robes of golden thread. “Ah, yes! Here comes Sector two dressed in the finery of their namesake! Give them a cheer, folks!! ”

“Riding through now is Sector 10!” the announcer commented, watching the shiny scales and pearls wrapped tastefully around the sacrifices shimmer. “Sector 10 has the youngest lottery winner this year!  Their pearls sure are glowing bright, aren’t they? Let’s give them a round of applause!”

This continued until she called out, “And finally, here is Sector 4…” she stared for a second at their costume. “It seems the tributes from Sector 4 are on fire! What a turn of events folks!!!”

The crowd roared with unmatched enthusiasm as Oga and Furuichi rode in; Oga dressed completely in a black, armor material, engulfed in a bright red inferno while Furuichi wore all white, diamonds glittering in her silver hair and on her silk dress, white flames trailing behind her.

“It seems the coal mining Sector has gone for a diamond and coal theme!” Furuna called out, watching the crowd go wild at the duo. “They also seemed to incorporate the ‘Beauty and the Beast’, the ‘Day and Night’, the ‘Angel and Demon’, essentially, the ‘Opposites’ theme! Contestant Tatsumi Oga looks most terrifying with his demonic smile yet Contestant Takayuki Furuichi’s ethereal expression does not falter a bit; Very nice, Sector 4!”

In their chariot, Furuichi hissed, “Oga, I thought they told you not to smile.”

Oga shrugged. “We might want sponsors, but we’re also here to intimidate our opponents,” he said back before taking Furuichi’s hand in his. “Besides, looks like they’re eating up our… what’d she call it? Beauty and beast look.”

Oga lifted her hand and gave is a small kiss, prompting the citizens crow with excitement. “Beauty and the Beast indeed, folks!!!” the announcer cheered with excitement. “Let’s welcome the fire couple!!”

The whole stadium went wild with deafeningly loud cheers.

**

Adventure: I just wanted to write about Oga and Furuichi as fantasy characters.

Part-time: I thought it was funny that Beelzebub characters had a “Starbugs” hahah xD so funny. The cost of the drinks I got from Starbucks Japan website ^^:

Lottery: Hunger games rip-off? I chose sector 4 because it’s the number of death in Asian cultures ^^:

Wanton: Behaving lewdly. Exactly what I imagine Furuichi to be like when he’s hella drunk; Horny. Good thing Oga’s there to set him straight. Also, I do enjoy Tojo/Furuichi as well….Actually, I enjoy putting Furuichi with EVERYONE male. But Oga/Furu has a special place in my heart.

Locomotion: Continuation of Lottery. Just a note of interest, the fastest train in the world currently seems to be able to go at 581km/hr.

Aegis: Protection or Support; a shield or protective armor. Just wanted to show that Furuichi was more than just…. You know, a perv.

Barista: Continuation of Part-time. Just Oga being a troll/good boyfriend.

Coal: Continuation of Lottery and Locomotion. Just to wrap up the Hunger Games parody(?) with their brilliant entrance.

Until next time :)
