It's been a while already but I saw
A Single Man not too long ago and I've been wanting to write about it ever since.
If it still plays in your area, go on and watch it!
The movie is incredibly beautiful in every sense. Tom Ford, the director, is actually a fashion designer and that might be the reason this film is one of the most stylish ones I have ever seen. That goes beyond Colin Firth looking mighty fine in his impeccable 60s wardrobe though. Every single frame looks absolutely polished and perfect. But thanks to Colin Firth's performance and the tragic, intense story the movie is more than an extended fashion magazine and stayed with me for days.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been any reaction from fandom at large because this kind of film and story seems destined for it. It was also fascinating for me to see, how different the look of a gay director is in context of portraying males in film. It's noticeably different from what we are used to in Hollywood but I found it less sexualized and more focused on aesthetic aspects compared to how women usually are portrayed in film.
The
trailer doesn't really capture the magic of the film but
this fanvideo by
tearful-eye does. Even if you don't plan on watching the movie, take a look at that fanvid, it's amazing!
