While discussing a few vids with mumblemutter we thought it would be a great idea to put together a post featuring our favorite Heroes fanvideos and exchange recs

Yeah, I know, I find it jarring when the songs are shortened too but I think shorter vids around 2 minutes often work better than overly long ones.
I love the Placebo/Petrelli vid as well. So much. And I'm surprised you haven't heard of Climbing Up The Walls before. It has made some waves in fandom.
OMG your Scrubs/Turk vids are killing me and going straight to my favorites on YouTube. Ahahahahah.
But on a more serious note I would LOVE it, if someone made a "The Wall" vid to Splitting The Atom! The lyrics aren't that fitting probably but I adore the mood of the song and think it would make a fantastic vid with the shots of the deserted city they are in.
Heroes definitely needs more dancing! They are all too serious anyway. Too bad they already shot down the possibility of a musical episode. That would have been so epic!
but I think shorter vids around 2 minutes often work better than overly long ones.
Having tried my hand at vidding in the past, I think the reason that's true for most vids is that it's very easy to have a coherent idea for the verses and the refrain one or two times, but incredibly difficult to hit it three or more times. The longer the song goes, particularly if it gets repetitious, the harder it is to keep the vid coherent. My still unfinished Star Wars vid that I started in college had this very problem. The first minute was blissfully easy to do, and the last fifteen seconds... have not been completed, to this day. >_>
Yes, even without having any experience with video editing, I can see that. Unless a song builds up to big climax in the last third, it must be incredible hard to keep up the flow and tension in the middle part without getting repetitive. And as a viewer I also prefer shorter, tighter vids most of the time. Unless, like I said, they build up to something.
Hey, I didn't know you experimented with vids too! Aren't you feeling inspired to go back to that? *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* You can start with 1 minute clips... ;D
Haha, I've been tempted, occasionally. I started a vid after S2 -- I had an action vid in mind linking the nightmares plot together with Hiro in the past. Never got far beyond clipping it, though, because my external hard drive crashed and I lost the majority of my progress. Given the right song, I might be tempted. ;)
Well.... I have been not so subtly hinting at Splitting The Atom... *g*
But I can see that you need a song that is first of all inspiring for you. Maybe we can brainstorm together later. I always wanted to know how a vid process works. What comes first? The song, the idea, the canon material?
For me, when I've tried at least, the song came first. There is actually a Florence and the Machine song that is perfectly, perfectly Claire (and Claire/Gretchen). It's actually so perfectly literal that I think it would end up very trite. I mean, there are so many lines like "happiness hit her/like a bullet to the brain." It would rapidly descend into hilariously inappropriate slapstick, I think.
And I will have to give Splitting the Atom a listen... :D
You know, I think starting with a slightly cracky vid and just fitting visuals to lines might be the easiest way to get into vidding. I do enjoy these kind of vids very much, if I like the song. Concept vids are probably a lot more difficult, so why not start with this Claire/Gretchen? What is the song called?
LOL, somehow I'm not surprised that someone picked up on that song. It's actually extra funny because the sitcom Community also used that for their Christmas brawl, which emphasized the female lead's theory that all fights are a result of men's "repressed gayness."
The Florence and the Machine song I was thinking of for Claire, BTW, is "Dog Days Are Over." Another great, viddable one of theirs is "Blinding." That one would be great either for Peter or for the show on general principle, since it features lines like "Seems that I have been held, in some dreaming state/A tourist in the waking world, never quite awake/No kiss, no gentle word could wake me from this slumber/Until I realized that it was you who held me under." Actually, I need to stop before I quote the entire song, because it's fantastic.
