Well, my first thought would be that initially, they weren't sure how much access they were going to have to Quinto, so they were hedging their bets, and once they knew they had him, they switched to version two.
Because heaven forbid anyone on the show (besides occasionally Peter) should have any interest in Nathan other than as a potential villain or chess piece. I don't really get his apparent lack of popularity (with the audience, I mean), anyway, but I suppose that's a pointless discussion.
On a more emotional note though, that switch just pisses me off. But I am used to that reaction by now. Sort of inured, really. I suppose I should just remind myself that at least I am not a Mohinder fan...
Or for Peter and Noah to realize that they should share their mustard and cereals as roomies - and now I have the mental image of Peter and Noah mirroring Claire's and Gretchen's pyjama party from the end of the episode...
Man, I am getting urges to write all sorts of cracky fic these days... this, and Peter turned into a dog... and a Petrelli-Bennet holiday...
BTW, can I steal the Peter icon on the left of the bottom row and the Nathan icon on the right of that row? Both are gorgeous, and I loved that Peter vs God scene so, so much. Would you mind if I put text on them? I'm not sure I will, but I just want to check in case.
Also, I think if you use adjustment layers, you should somehow be able to use them on different images, but... I'm not sure. Have you tried googling for relevant Photoshop tutorials? There's lots of those out there, and many of them are very helpful, with screenshots and everything.

I had that emotional knee jerk reaction too. It's sad that there is this distinction between first and second class cast members now. That's not how you treat actors who have been with the series from the first day (when Sylar was still a shadow). But yeah, Mohinder and to some extent Hiro and Ando fans must be even more frustrated.
I just hope that the switch doesn't indicate some major reworking of "Nathan's" story line in future episodes but that they only realized it would make more sense for Lydia to sense the orignal owner of the body.

Oh please, indulge in these urges! I would love to read all three fics. And like I said, this is going to be the last season, so why not make the most of it?
Also, feel free to take any icon you want and I don't mind, if you modify them. The one of Peter on the bottom left corner isn't from the curch scene, though but from Nathan's "He is one of us" scene in the finale.
Heee and I spent half of the day with photoshop tutorials, so expect some more icons and graphics soon. There are just so many tutorials that it's often hard to find answers for a specific question which is why I prefer to bother my flist. ;)
