Today we had the first snow of the season but most of it melted away quickly. I was able to see some of it before it disappeared because I was woken up rather early from some electricians who wanted to check something. One of them looked like Krum. Heh.
My original plan was to write down some Gof-thoughts but I've seen so many reviews the past few days that I'll spare your f-list another one. In short: I enjoyed the movie. Maybe it will take the top spot on my favorite HP-movie list but I have yet to watch the English version before I can judge properly.
Yes, it was very rushed in places and there was no time for proper character development but I was expecting that considering the amount of pages from the book. What made me enjoy the movie were the overwhelming visuals and the overall atmosphere from the teen soap opera to the graveyard scene. Ahhh, and I adored Ralph Fiennes's Voldemort in all his theatrical glory. In fact, I really liked all additional actors and what they did with their characters although we really didn't see that much of Fleur and Krum. Judging from their facial expressions (because I've yet to hear them delivering their lines ;) Dan, Emma and Rupert also keep getting better and better. Not sure what to think of Gambon's Dumbledore so far.
One of my favorite sequences was from the moment the goblet announces Harry's name to the ferret scene. The whole sequence was well paced, it flowed nicely and showed one of the many times Harry is isolated from his fellow school mates. It reminded of one of the reasons why I like Harry Potter: He doesn't enjoy his role as savior of the world, most of the time he suffers terribly because of it. That's what he has in common with the other "Chosen One", Anakin. Both of them are very isolated most of their lives because of a prophecy. In addition to that they are met with mistrust from the majority of people they encounter on a daily basis. There are few people who see past their status and who gained their trust. And I think Harry's relationship to Ron, Hermione, the Weasleys and Co. is much healthier than Anakin's relationship to Palpatine, Padmé and even Obi-Wan. We see them struggle with their destiny and Anakin, of course, fails spectacularly before he redeems himself. Harry's acceptance of his fate in HBP was a bit quick for my taste and I hope Rowling doesn't destroy her carefully built struggling hero figure in book 7 by making him a super hero all of a sudden. Some of his character traits in HBP made me worry because he seemed to have matured too fast. Well, I guess there are few hero figures that have as many flaws as Anakin. ;)
In short, I love my struggling, isolated heroes. And maybe I'm shallow but in most cases I feel the most for the actual hero figure of the movie/book and not for the uncountable supporting characters. I'll never be one of those crazy Snape, Lucius, Sirius, Bail, Haldir, third orc from the right... fans. ;p
