Kyungsoo has a habit of drinking but keeps out of trouble, Kai just doesn’t know how that’s possible
Drinking Cherry Bombs on
the Edge of Heaven
Kai’s been waking up to a cold abstract floor the past few days, he takes a notice, head rolling sideways on the uncomfortable ground. The view features a wooden plank standing straight up with those huge gigantic knockers on the front, and since he was really close, too close for this to just be a strangers home, he also takes in the frosty air that seeps out to his face under the small cracks of opening. The pain becomes noticeable, small stingings on his back and they hurt even more as he touches them for a confirmation, not big enough to draw blood but still, human made. hIS legs curl into an awkward pile full of long and bony textures, one push and he’s upright again, staring unblinkingly at the door. It’s not until he sits there that the realization falls on him like the dew drops that morning, freshening the thought that he really had gotten kicked out of the house that night or rather, it’s a hypothesis he’s sure of. It’s still hazy, the feeling of unwanted hands roughly pushing him outside, he’s gotta talk about Kyungsoo letting him out easy later, and the familiar cracks and pebbles under his cheeks.
The dew drops are falling more heavily outside, even though he’s shaded under a vine hood, he still hears the insistent drops quickening by the second. It’s rain, another realization and for a second Kai doesn’t think of hating him, but rather loving Kyungsoo for going against him and building the small roof that’s currently keeping him out of the storm. Light knocks, quicker knocks and then there’s the violent scenic knocks because he really doesn’t want to be under the weather with a violent headache, surely kyungsoo would bitch about taking care of him later on. This time, the view is unfamiliar, because it’s not the deer eyes that greets him, he’s a bit glad that they’re softer than kyungsoo’s, but belonging to his Chinese friend, the pretty one that always hang around Sehun whenever he’s around.
“Oh, you’re awake.” is what Luhan says and he disappears inside the door, leaving Kai leaning against the frame. He resists the voice that asks why Luhan is doing here and just follows behind, trudging in the heavy steps that contains his spirit of the night before. He stops on the couch with Luhan in the kitchen, making something that contains eggs and meat and Kai takes a while on the leather, closing his eyes and waiting for his mind and body to function properly before asking, “Where’s Kyungsoo?”
“He stayed up all night doing his essay and he’s really tired so don’t bother him. I doubt waking up to you is a good morning.” Luhan recites this wearily, fingers still busy setting up “pieces of heaven” complimentary of Sehun. He’s too tired to talk back and makes his way to the bedroom, ignoring the glare coming his way. Kyungsoo’s already waiting for him, hair tousled up in a mess, eyes still closed and hands tucked what looked like to be under the heavy blankets; Kai’s sure that it’s actually his thighs to keep his hands warm. This weary image is exactly what he imagines must be before a storm, a calm serene that would blast away once the other opens his eyes.
“Hey.” Keeping it casual always saves him at times.
Kyungsoo opens his eyes and for a second Kai sees worry in those big orbs, and he knows the other had taken the time to look at his torn tank top and dirty jeans. It’s a rough sight he admits, through the one time he glimpsed at the mirror on his way over.
“I thought I kicked you out last night.” Kyungsoo says. It’s more like a question.
“Just shoving me outside the door without even the attempt to push me down your steps is not kicking me out. It’s simply telling me that you hate me at the moment and would love me back in the morning.” Kai says, making his way over. He tries sitting on the bed but only to have small hands pushing at his weight until they were stopped, tired from denial he thought. Kyungsoo’s hands were small, way smaller than his and the grip was also easier because that’s exactly what he did, taking both of Kyungsoo’s wrists and shoving the latter over to make enough space for himself.
“Well that may not be your definition, but in my world it means stay the hell away from me.” The words sting a bit more than possible and Kai’s looking over only to see his lover biting down on his lips.
“Kyungsoo~”
“..,”
“omma~”
“...”
He sighs and just surrenders to the other’s stubbornness. They stay silent for the next few moments, the only things changing was Kai’s arm sneaking over his lover’s waist and bringing him inside his lap, despite the small protesting actions. Scents of vanilla and cucumber melon fills the space and Kai just wants to burrow his head in the other’s neck and give silent apologies. He did just that and after half an hour, Kyungsoo’s hand is wrapping warmly over his rough ones, face turning over to meet his.
“Hmm?”
Kyungsoo looked... unsure. “Ummm, since I don’t know how to start the convo, can you just say I’m sorry and then I’ll say ‘I forgive you’ and then we’ll forget about this kay? I’m too tired to argue to you about this matter.” Kyungsoo says. It was one of those moments when DO. kyungsoo is surprisingly cute and Kai’s just laughing, turning him over now 180 and the other is completely seated in his lap before he plants a quick kiss on the other’s lips. Apparently that had completely embarrassed the other and Kai quickly finds himself pushed to the bathroom. “Go take a shower, and I’ll go make breakfast.”
“He’s already made breakfast, baby. Go thank him and tell him to get the hell out for me kay?” He laughs when pillows are thrown his way and settles inside the vanilla fashioned bathroom, scarlet images of Kyungsoo’s cheeks fresh in his mind.

It’ not when Kyungsoo successfully manages to tell Luhan to go home, not sparing the scolding of how unthankful he is, when the house is silent except for the distant showering water coming from his bedroom. He walks over to the kitchen, spotless and dishes all washed and dried that he realizes how different Luhan is from Kai. One being a neat freak and the other just being a... freak, but of course he wouldn’t let either of them know that. Luhan’s generous enough this time to make them two servings, there were mostly times when he just made one for Kyungsoo despite the manners that Kai should’ve gotten breakfast too. The other just didn’t care when it came to his boyfriend, doesn’t because in Luhan’s dictionary, Kai isn’t even there if Kyungsoo wasn’t around.
Kyungsoo learns the reason why Luhan was like that a few months back, when he’s voiced out loud the reason for being an ass to Kai.
I don’t understand why you are still with him Soo, when you’re so much better. You know he has too many friends for your liking and you don’t even say anything.
Kyungsoo only shook his head at the times, silently denying everything the other had accused.
He just really likes his job, that’s why he stays late and also his friends; I know them. So it’s fine if he hangs out with them, I don’t want to tie him down hyung.
He had made up reasons.
You know why he stays out late. You know the real reason why he doesn’t pick up your calls Soo.
He had tried to block it out, because hearing it out loud just made it seem so much more real.
He’s cheating on you Soo. And you’re just letting him haul you under like a linen sheet in the relationship.
But he’s still linen, he takes it as being a precious material and if he was precious to Kai, that’s all he needs.
