Fuck homophobia - Anti Flag, Warped tour '02

Aug 02, 2002 01:39

A good friend of mine recently wrote in his livejournal about homophobia and how our society is homophobic as a whole. I responded to him in a mean and nasty way for only one reason...while his argument was great, he stated in it that gay people "choose" to be gay. This upset me in more ways then you can imagine, my friend being such a hypocrite ( Read more... )

Victor,

You're right. Most people don't choose to be gay. But, by doing what they call "coming out" they are sacrificing the "safeness" (which is debatable) of a straight lifestyle. Although it may not be a choice they have made, it is an thought which has rendered their mind in some point while debating whether or not to come out. The consequences of being gay are present. We see them. And, when Kellen wrote about them, he was upset about some of the unneeded consequences, such as the name calling. It is sad that those stupid, immature, inconsiderate, uncouth, derogatory things occur in a place where we claim to be the land of oppurtunity. The oppurtunity to be discriminated for the way we ARE. Not the choices we make, I agree...although our choices do affect who we are. And although they are choosing to be gay, or shunned by certain religions, they are choosing to go to those clubs. They are choosing to have sex. They are choosing to allow themselves to live the life they want. They (the ones that I have known, for I cannot generalize) say that they are born gay and that they don't choose to be gay. Correct. I commend you for your argument, however, I can also see Kellen's just as clearly as yours...keep the intentions good...and spread your knowledge. Fight your point and never let someone tell you you are wrong. Opinions are biased and they are the reason that we have discrimination, hate, racism, poverty...but...they are also the reason we have love, understanding, compassion, and knowlege. Don't shut up because you think differently...I will always listen to what you have to say.

Friends til the end.

I missed a key word in here... "not" So, it should read, although they are "not" choosing to be gay, etc. etc.
