one of my favourite professors died.
he was rather ancient, I guess.
so heart failure wasn't a huge
stretch of the imagination.
but it was still a shock.
In general, I'm mostly saddened that
no one else will benefit from
his teachings. He was pretty much
universally beloved by his students.
(which is quite rare for the
teachers I generally like. Most of my
'favourites' are hated by more than
half the class, and liked only by a
select handful.)
but he was brilliant and eccentric,
and he changed people without
exerting any effort at all (so it seemed).
he just had this amazing presence about him,
whether or not he was saying anything sensible,
or rambling off on a tangent. his words
carried a great deal of substance, and his
class changed me when I was ready for a change
to occur.
He would let the class out early every night
(it was a 3 hour class), and anywhere between
2 and 5 of us students would stay behind to
cluster in a small circle - or to speak
with his wife, who is equally beautiful and
amazing. It was just wonderful. A breath of
fresh air, that you couldn't really shake
immediately after leaving the class. It
was a class that reached deep in your
gut and pulled something out - rather
than teaching through assignments or
tests.
rar.
so. I'm going to bed.
