Possible Japan trip? Help?

Mar 26, 2009 17:45

The end of March is nearing and I'm considering traveling, especially after meeting up with magedragonfire and her fiancé (congrats again!) It's kind of a rushed decision, but I think I would enjoy it...!

I figured... I've got the time, not too attached to a single place, and it might be a good opportunity. Here's what I think so far:

I'm going to SoCal sometime in early April. Lots of people want me down there so I'm gonna make it a week or a weekend at least. I haven't seen Ron in ages so I'm going to try making San Diego on the list. Probably call him up soon to ask about that.

Mid April or after SoCal, I want to go to someplace for a few weeks to a month. I can't miss Fanime because I'm going to be at the Artist's Alley. Fanime starts about... mid-May, so any length of time between that would be very good. If it doesn't work out, pushing it to after AX...!!!

I have three choices to travel to:

Japan
Taiwan
Vancouver, BC

Japan
My first choice is definitely Japan. I've never been before, there are people I would love to meet, especially after Twitter recently. The thing is, I don't know where I could possibly stay. I don't know what it's like. I don't know if my language skills are up to par. I don't know if they would like to meet me. I don't know if I would be intruding, since I don't know what their schedules are like. I know some work, I know some don't... I'm not confident at all about it, yet, I would just love to go... Buying a plane ticket? Simple. Buying a rail pass or something? I can do that. A place to stay? Definitely not a hotel... a guest house? I don't know, it sounds so daunting! A hostel? But I'm really shy and it's really social... ah, what to do!? I really want to go!!!!! If anyone has any tips, advice, help, anything, I would REALLY appreciate it!! I especially want to go so I could immerse myself in the language... I hope that a short amount of time would help my Japanese immensely-- it's also a tester if I want to commit to a full year for something like an assistant teacher program.

The biggest issue is definitely finding a place to stay...!! And any good tips would be nice!

Taiwan
My second choice~ I have family living in Taiwan so it's not a problem on a place to stay. They are more than likely going to take me to places. I don't know anyone in Taiwan except my family. I've been at least twice before, the first time I could hardly remember since I was younger than 8. The second time was when my grandfather was on his last days... my reasoning for going is because I'd like to improve my Chinese. I know that when I used to go to Grandma's house for even two weeks, I would come back speaking a ton of Chinese. Staying in Taiwan for a month? I have to be speaking it by the end of the month! This is entirely do-able for me.

Vancouver, BC, Canada
My last choice which is because I actually moved my earlier 2009 plans to 2010, preferably away from the Olympics. If I end up doing Vancouver, I am going to ask Elizabeth if she can go with me. I'd probably stay with Nacchan and stuffs :U! Lots to do there I'm sure, and they all speak my language...!!!! Totally do-able too!

Sorry for all the art posts... I'm not sure if anyone are really bothered by them, but it's all I really have to share for now.
