printmaking // japan // mother's day

Such a lucky meeting
I'm sure will never come again
Was it chance, or fate?
Isn't it fine either way?

I have my photo lithography plate all ready.

Today, I visited Jimin, a printmaking professor at my university. She isn't teaching any courses this quarter, but she came to visit... and had a lot of meetings with people. Ron came with me, or perhaps I should say, we went together.

We both had Jimin sign our forms to have class subsitutions! ... so that part of graduation is out of the way.

Jimin expressed her concerns with the printmaking department falling, because the Art department is getting cuts and things like that... she also expressed she is the only professor who stands for printmaking-- the rest of them are lecturers... and Paul (another lecturer) and her relationship isn't very good because he is jealous that she got the tenure before he did (and he was there longer). They are both good lecturers, and so is Richard, yet another one, but Richard also doesn't have it, either.

She described her and Paul's relationship as "oil and water." I really loved her analogy...

While meeting with her, she knew I wanted to ask about Japan. She gave me a list of things/places to do/visit... and basically they were all related to art or printmaking. That was really interesting! She says that if we ever wanted some hookups in the art world, she could give us recommendations. I thought about what I wanted to do in the future... that would be a good opportunity, I suppose. That would depend... it really would. If she could get me a job in Japan, that might mean having to move there, wouldn't it?

I called home for Mother's Day. Mom made fun of me, saying that either I forgot to call her or I just woke up. Well, I just woke up. Haha. I called her in the afternoon... anyway, I said that I was making prints to sell at the print sale to go to Japan, and asked her what she thought of it, and she said, "Graduation present?" I got really happy... She said to do my best with the print sale and to make as much as I can, and they can help fund the rest. I'll do my best.

I have to graduate!

I hope they don't mind I planned my trip to be a month...
