...Shion? Mm, now that -is- convenient... And housed with Allen no less? But either way, I needed to pass a message on to him, and...from what he says, you ought to be included as well anyway.

What? Um, who are you? I don't recognize this voice. And how do you know Allen?

Ah, you wouldn't. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Elizabe-theta Buckley. Most call me Theta. I know Allen from this place, and he mentioned you to me. He speaks very highly of you.

Is... that so? So you're one of the people Allen has met here then? And Theta? What an interesting name.

Why thank you. It's spelled E-L-I-Z-A-B-E-theta. As in the Greek symbol. They'd just made a new discovery regarding the ruins of ancient Greece around the time of my birth...there was an explosion of Greek themed names and the use of Greek symbols in children of my generation. I'm very partial to it myself, as well.

Are you enjoying the technology here, Miss Shion?

I see. I haven't heard of Greece since history books, and even then very little is known of any of it. So fascinating.

So far, it seems interesting. I'd very much like to examine it more closely.

There's to be a get-together for engineers and ergaleomancers and those people like us. I was going to tell Allen, but could I ask you to pass it on since I have you on the line?

Call Mr. Edgar Figaro and ask in regards to it. The gathering is his idea. From what Allen says of you...it might be something to your interest as well?

Edgar Figaro? I'll have to find his number. But yes, I'll pass it along to Allen. As for whether I'd be interested, of course I would. Technology is such a wonderful thing, don't you think?

Though, may I ask, what is an ergaleomancer?

As long as it's nothing private to speak of, you can always just make an open announcement to the town and let him pick up. I find that's easier when looking to track someone down.

An ergaleomancer is....well, it seems to be unique to my world. We are...parallel to engineers, you could say, we are...the master craftsmen that make the technology of our world. Which is...quite different to what you see here.

Are you...familiar with the concept of parallel universes, Miss Shion?

miltianbunny September 16 2010, 07:35:53 UTC
I'll try that, then when I have a moment.

Yes. I know the concept well. That human choices are so many and so varied, that even the slightest change in something like a yes or no answer can cause everything else to change as well. Even if it seems unimportant.

That is what you mean, right?

Yes, that is precisely what I am driving at. Without access to history books from your world, I can only begin to guess at where the change was, but my -guess- would be around the time of the Industrial Revolution, as that was when ergaleomancy was discovered, and as yet I have not met a single person familiar with the concept.

We are...well I would go so far as to say a direct parallel to the engineers of so many other worlds. We are the inventors, the driving force behind the technology of our world, but...I have not seen or heard of clockworks being used on any worlds represented here save my own. [OOC - That's not actually true, but for the moment, Theta assumes Baron Wulfenbach is from her own world and that she simply doesn't concern herself with places other than England.]

I can show you some examples of my work some time, I think I may actually make a small clockwork to take with me to this gathering of Mr. Figaro's.

I see. I think I understand, all except maybe what a Clockwork is. Even that I can fathom guesses at, and would be very pleased to see what you produce.

Our history books would possibly not be very helpful for you, however. There is a lot of which we've lost over the years. Which is sad, considering how advanced a time I came from, one would think we would know our history well.

A clockwork is a machine made using clockworks--gears and springs and such. But in the hands of an ergaleomancer, clockworks can come alive, and I do mean that -literally-. Clockworks can also do things...bending the laws of reality, physics, nature, that sort of thing, but...that takes a lot of work and design to happen ( ... )

[Shion nods as Theta speaks, though it cannot be seen to the other woman. After Theta has finished speaking, Shion can't help but smile.]

So long as it isn't hurting anyone, I don't see any problems with you coming back to my world. Sometimes we don't realize where we belong until we're forced, in some way, to take stock of the people and things around us.

And I'd be very glad to teach you some of our world, if you'd show me some of these clockworks. They sound marvelous, and just a little like what I was working on a while back; though she was an...

[There's a small break here as something seems to stop Shion's speech. When she resumes, her voice is a little shaky.]

I suppose originally she was an android. But she took on a life all her own, like the clockwork you described.

Though I'm curious, who is this 'Darling' that's so changed your life?

ergaleomancer September 16 2010, 08:31:35 UTC
Mm, well. [A wry chuckle.] There have already been comments about whether or not he's hurting -me-, but I assure you, despite my obvious disability, I'm -quite- capable of saying no to things that I'm not actually interested in.

[An android is like a clockwork, is it? This gets Theta's attention.] I think I'd like to hear more about these...'androids'... [She doesn't miss that Shion seems to be a bit shaky on the topic, but she hopes that by assuring her she doesn't have prejudices against things created by human hands it will reassure Shion enough to be able to talk to her.]

My Darling? [She smiles and makes a sound somewhat like a hum that conveys the expression a bit without needing a word.] That would be Albedo. [As much as she loves him, her tone gets a bit stiff--preparing for the 'usual' barrage of shock, horror, and surprise.]

[Shion would have made a large exposition on Theta's words, namely that she knew some people translated pain to pleasure, and that it would be fascinating to see how close and how dissimilar the clockwork and androids, like KOS-MOS, were, but she was stopped as the last words stuck in her head.]

Albedo? As in the Testament Albedo?!
