Here's a quick review of the highlights of the past week or so:
- Last week I was on my way to work, and I came to the second set of lights down the hill from my house, which were red, so I stopped and waited. And waited. And WAITED. I swear the light was red for at least 3 minutes. There were cars backed up all the way up the hill and across the street. We sat and waited, and finally an old lady got out of the car in front of me and started gesturing to the line of cars, waving her arms and mimicking calling on a cellphone. She pointed to the light and back to us, and just then the light turned green. So I gestured frantically for her to get back in her damn car and go. She looked around, then threw her hands up in the air and walked back to her car, got in, and started driving - and the light turned yellow. That light could not have been green for more than 6 or 7 seconds. She drove through and I was pretty much glued to her bumper to get through the intersection before the light turned red again. Those poor people behind me!
- Over the weekend I was hanging curtains on my front porch, where I have 2 big Morris chairs. I was stepping up onto one of the chairs to hang a curtain, but miscalculated and ended up slamming the corner of my knee right into the edge of the VERY HARD chair arm. I reacted the way I have seen many men react when they are kicked in the balls: doubled over, unable to even speak beyond a pathetic little squeak. I rolled on the floor in agony for a while, then slowly recovered and tried to put some weight on it - OUCH. My knee had a bright purple knot on it with a shadow of bruise all around. I limped around the whole day, and by evening my knee was making weird clicking sounds. And the worst part is, it's my GOOD knee!! My mother did point out that I stupidly did not ice it. It's a little better today, but still very bruised. Goddam chairs.
- Yesterday was visitor's day at Fairview! My aunt stopped by on her way home from my cousin's, and Uhungus' sister and cousin came to visit with their kids. I realized that our house is in NO way suitable for small children. There are far too many fragile items/pointy objects/glass things full of water/electrically charged devices/stairs. We did have fun playing the piano and drum, and shooting guns that made the victim into a superhero.
- The weather is FINALLY warming up! I actually saw some snowmelt on the street this morning. I might be able to wash my car!!
Well, that's about it. Not terribly exciting, but there it is.
