Mildmay's been worried since he ran into his way too young brother. The experience was disconcerting to say the least and he's been worried about his brother since, but he hasn't actually seen him since then. So he's gone looking, checking the room he'd left the boy in and the room Felix pointed out to him as an adult, the kitchen, even the ( Read more... )

It has, though this Felix isn't doing much better.

He's probably found at some point in a quiet corner somewhere, avoiding pretty much everyone he knows and dozing. At least he has managed to keep his word to Pascal and stay away from the alcohol. Eventually, he tells himself, he'll go back. Just for now he kind of wants to be alone.

Mildmay is being very thorough, even though his leg is getting sore and tired, and eventually he stumbles across that quiet corner. Concerned brother senses appeased, he almost turns to just leave, but by this point his leg really is aching and tired and he has to sit, just for a few minutes, then he'll go and leave Felix alone.

Felix looks up from his dozing at the small sound. His eyes go wide, almost scared, and rather abruptly he's on his feet and backing up. "--Mildmay," kind of alarmed. How long has he been there, what's he doing, he does not want to talk to his little brother right now because that would be bad...

Mildmay, having only just sat down, gives Felix a look about as startled as Mildmays get. He rubs his leg, it's aching. "...Felix." He doesn't know if Felix would remember being a kid, and he doesn't want to bring it up at all if he doesn't.

Felix looks nervous, and kind of glances at the rubbing, half worried, but not about to say anything. "..." He scrambles for something to say that's not offensive, and is coming up blank. A kind of nervous shift and not going to be looking at Mildmay anymore, twitching a bit. It'd be nice to just bolt.

At least for Felix, the fact that he's doing that is probably a clue that he hasn't been there very long at all. He just sighs very slightly and stays silent, actually waiting for Felix to bolt. He doesn't really expect Felix to say anything, much less anything that isn't offensive.

Still hesitating, though.

"...what're you doing?" Eventually, kind of quietly. He probably looks closer to crazy than he has since Mildmay came here.

"Sitting," he says. "My leg's tired." He doesn't want to actually say that he was looking for him. And he does, Mildmay's worried though it doesn't show.

..."Oh." Well, nothing wrong with that. As long as you weren't doing something like worrying about me or whatever. "...you-"

He stops, grimaces, looks down. Right. No giving advice, remember?

Felix, do you really think he wouldn't be? "What?"

He can always hope! It's been a while, he was kind of hoping maybe Mildmay was forgetting to. Or something. Out of sight, out of mind?

He sighs and glances sideways and down. "I was going to say you shouldn't walk so much that it hurts. But never mind."

Nooo, not so much. Mildmay just wishes that he could be anywhere near Felix without everything disolving into awkward lying and evasions.

"It'll be fine." He's not entirely sure whether Felix really cares much or not, and he's just tired of all of this.

That's a laugh, actually, utterly mirthless and just kind of hopeless. "Would you tell me if it weren't?" He shrugs once. "Don't answer that. It's fine. I was..."

He stops, glancing sideways and drawing his shoulders up and kind of muttering something like "would you just leave for a moment?"

Whatever he was about to say freezes as that sinks in and connects with his earlier conversation with Pascal. "...You okay?"

He pauses, almost spits out the automatic answer, then shrugs, briefly. "No." Almost a smile, though not really a good one. "But it's not important."

He stares at Felix for a moment, unable to believe that he actually acknowledged that he's not okay. "...Yeah it is. You're hearing'em again, ain't you?" Meaning the ghosts.
