I originally claimed this song for Club Vivid and was going to do a multi spy movies/tv shows with it. And then my brain started working again and I realized how much source that would entail. Limiting to one actor seemed a smart way to do it.
I remembered when "Salt" came out that there was a lot of talk about how the role was originally meant for Tom Cruise, but when he pulled out they recast it with Angelina Jolie. To me, that was incredibly interesting because they kept the story the same and replaced it with a woman - without making major changes to the storyline or character. A woman can headline an action movie, and as the box-office shows, she can draw a crowd. It's hard to come up with many other actresses that have headlined so many action movies with the same level of financial success (although there are plenty of AMAZING action actresses *points at Abbey's vid*, and Milla Jovovich is a close second). While I have to admit it's a bit hard to believe her throwing big guards through the room when she looks so frail now (and boy, working on multi source makes the difference unsettling), she's still an action star who happens to be a woman, and that's awesome.
Then I got tricked into picking anothersongweshallnotmentionnow for CVV and the vid was moved to an even more fitting spot, "Riot Grrls" (gwyn_r , you are awesome)
I had fun with the vid's narrative, toying with Angelina Jolie's public image and the idea of rebellion. Love her or hate her, she definitely makes headlines, stuff that ranges from her humanitarian work (and even more so lately, the fact that she's the mother of 6 kids) to her sexual appetite ("Cause I know that everybody's thinkin' it when the light's out" ). Even though there's thousands of words written about her every week, the truth is that we don't really know jack. And okay, she's a little freaky sometimes (kissing her brother, anyone? blood vial?), but everyone's a bit freaky: the difference is that she lets her freak flag fly. The shots of screens/scanning was also playing on that whole theme.
In more straightforward narrative, the vid is also the simple idea of a woman/women breaking out of the traditional woman role and owning up to their sexuality, their desires and the right to do whatever they want.
