Argh, evening all. It's been over a month since I updated this - those of you who read the band's blog on myspace will understand why - it's been fucking busy! What can I say? We've done quite a few gigs - including The Cavern, to name but one - and we really are on the up at the moment, with ace feedback and reviews from everything we do! But I shall not bore you with that here; instead I shall talk about things on a more personal level.
Well, I've been employed for around 7 weeks now, and my god it is the dullest job ever... Naturally, having signed the Official Secrets Act (not once, but twice!) I can't go into details, but suffice to say it is really really really boring. So I don't think I'll be there too much longer if I can help it. It's not even a case of "ah well, it may be shite, but it pays the bills" - I think I've been paid correctly and on time mebbe twice so far... Not overly impressive, really. *Sigh* It's quite depressing really, when you compare it to my other jobs - I've been an assistant manager (in all but name) in a busy call centre; and a sound technician/engineer/manager at some of the UKs most prestigious shows... and now I'm basically an office skivvy. Ah well.
Anyway, last weekend was the London Guitar Show. All I can say is - wow, I had a pretty good one. This year I was promoted to the man in charge of the 2 other bits (lol) - the seminar room and the acoustic stage. I even had my own crew to order around! Naturally, having not been expecting this (and not even being told until the day before - "Tom, you're in charge of the rooms this year"), I was a little nervous and worried about how it would go - miraculously, barring the fact that the monitors in the acoustic room blew up on Saturday, it pretty much all went to plan; although I must thank my crew for that, becasue tehre was no way I'd have managed it on my own! So, much kudos indeed to Andy, Joe and Nathan for their part in the show.
Low points of the show? Looking like an arse when the monitors died and we had no explanation for it (that's not an excuse - someone the night before had put them into protect and... well, it's a long story), and not meeting Nicko this year. :-( High points? Well, getting excellent feedback from my chief at the end of it all, and the free party.
Oh yeh, and there was one other thing...
I'M GOING TO MEET IRON MAIDEN!
Yep, that's right - I'm getting a backstage pass to go and meet the band at the NEC show in December. Ah, I have dreamed of this moment for soooooooo long!
Anyway, am now off to pub - will finish later!
