[fiction] Catch
Today’s weather is so nice. The sunlight shines through the clear water. It’s a lovely day to play around with my friends. Swim ... swim ... swim ... to the right ... to the left ... to the right again ...
“Fuguko!” my sister called me.
“Don’t go too far,” she warned me.
“But why? The weather is so nice. It’s such a waste to only swim around house!”
“It’s because the weather is so good that you have to stay close to our house. If you wander too far you will meet human. You could get caught.”
Here come again, the train of warning. It could take a whole day to listen to her warning. I just give my friends “let’s go” sign with my fin and we leave my sister immediately.
“I wonder why my sister is so cranky about getting caught by human.”
“Maybe she listened to too many legends about human. My parents said human likes to eat our kind,” said Buriko.
“But some of them don’t kill our kind. They give us small home, they feed us regularly, and sometimes looking at us while smiling,” Kingyoko added.
“Some of them are ikemen!” said Nemoko.
“Ikemen? What is ikemen? Is that even a word?” I asked, basically to myself.
“I don’t know. Ikemen is handsome guy. My mom told me about that. She said she heard it from my grandmother. She used to live in human’s house.” Nemoko explained, but I still don’t get it.
Suddenly it becomes dark. There’s something above us that block the sunlight. It’s so big.
“Swim awaaaaay!” my friends screamed and ran away, leaving me behind.
Why should we run? That big thing is not shark. It’s not dangerous, right? Oh, hey! Look at that! A worm. What a perfect timing. Swimming so far made me hungry and now I got a worm! Better eat it before other come and take it.Ow! Ow ow! What is this sharp thing stabbing my mouth? It hurts! In no time that thing pull me out the water.
“Yeay! I got puffer fish!”
Who said that? Oh, it’s that creature who said that. What kind of creature it is? Oh, no! Don’t tell me it’s human!
“Please! Don’t eat me! I still want to live!” I screamed with all my might.
“You can speak?!?!?!” the creature in front of me looked surprised. But, hey! I am MORE surprised.
“You can hear my voice? Really?”
Then that human freed me from the sharp thing tht hurting my mouth and put me in white place with water in it. I just can looked at that human. It’s shining. It’s fin ... ah, no, how does my sister called it? Hand. Ah, yes. It’s hand are so ... beautiful. And the thing above it’s mouth .. what is it? Ah, nose. It’s nose is ... I don’t know how to say it. I just like it. I love to look at it. And that human looking at me with it’s sparkling eyes. Oh. My. God. Is this what the called as ikemen? Yeah. No doubt. That human is ikemen!
That human bring my place leaving this big thing and skipped to the bigger thing. I guess it’s what they called as land.
“Ohno-san! You came back so fast. I thought you will be fishing until night,” another human talk to my human. So they call my human Ohno-san. Wait! My human? It sounds creepy ... But I like it. It’s my human. But, we just met. I don’t care. I will call him “my human”!
“Yeah, I felt unwell so I decide to go back early,” said my human. My human’s voice is a bit squeaky.
Then we’re leaving to my human’s house. It took a round, transparent thing, and fill it with water.After that it’s holding out it’s hand, trying to take me. Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod! What if he want to take me then eat me? I don’t wanna die! But ... but ... I still want to be touched by those beautiful hands.
“Please, don’t kill me, don’t eat me!” I begged.
“So you really can speak. Don’t worry. I won’t eat you. I’ll just put you to this fishbowl,” said my human with soothing voice. He’s smiling. Like a kid. And it calmed me a bit. Okay, a lot.
Wait, what is that? I heard some sound like “ding dong ding dong”.
Another human came in to the house. It’s head are slightly different with my human’s. Something blackish brown covering it’s head is a bit longer with my human’s. And it’s upper body is much swollen than my human’s. It seemed like she got two tumour in it’s upper body. What is my sister said about this kind of creature? I remember she said that there are two kind of human. Hen, mon, ah ... MAN. And, what’s the other? Puman? Wo ... wo ... wo something. What is it? Ah, woman. Maybe my human is man, and this human is woman. Let’s just call them that way.
“Satoshi, I bring side dish for you. Mom can’t come,” said this woman. Satoshi? Why this woman called my human Satoshi? Human we met before called my human Ohno-san.
“Ah, thank you, Onee-san,” said my human. So this woman’s name is Onee-san.
They’re chatting for a few hours. My human laughed a lot. I love hearing my human’s laughing voice although it sounded annoying at first. Before this woman’s leaving, they put their hand to other upper back body. How we call it? It seemed nice. I want to do that! I want to do that with my human.
I can do that if I become like that woman, right? God, please, I want to be human. I want to be a woman so I can put my fin, ups my hand in my human’s upper back body. Please, let me be human. I can’t remember how long I pray. All I remember is suddenly I heard a bang and then I was out of the fishbowl. I looked down. I got no tail. It become feet like hy human’s. But, aren’t these seemed very swollen? Why my feet are so big? And my hand are the same. It’s weird.
“Obaasan, who are you? What are you doing in my house?”
Oh, it’s my human. I hold out my hand, trying to touch my human and put my hand on my human’s upper back body.
“What the hell are you doing? Pervert!” my human looked scared.
Why? Why is he so scared of me? Then I saw a sparkling rectangle in the side of the house. There is round woman with crumpled face. Scary. I moved, it moved too. I moved again, it moved too. Wait! Don’t tell me that it’s me!
“Get out of my house!” my human screamed at me and open the rectangle hole of it’s house.
God, why? I prayed to be a woman. Why don’t you make me beautiful like woman I met before? Then I heard a voice,
