I'm really liking this NaNoWriMo thing. It's really changing my lifestyle, for now at least, and in a very fun way. Staying up until two in the morning writing scenes, going out to cafes with my laptop and just zoning out to music and writing away, and otherwise preoccupying my time by inventing other worlds and people is awesome. Writing a novel is something I've always wanted to do, and though by NaNoWriMos standard 50,000 word count is barely more than a novella, really, forcing myself to take a few hours out of my day, every day, to write a couple thousand words is very motivating, and I think even when the month is over, I'll keep my story going to get it to a sizable length, and we'll see where it goes from there. I'm far behind, barely clocking in at 6,000 words where I should be at about 21,000, but I also missed the first eight days of the month and slacked off a few days ago, and have to catch up. But even if my story doesn't reach 50,000 words by the 30th, I plan on still working on it. It's all very inspiring.

In other, non-nano news, Streetlight Manifesto's new CD, Somewhere in the Between, finally released today. I went to Hasting's last night to talk to Stopper and while there he told me their location had only ordered a whopping three copies of it because punk wasn't a big seller at that location. So this morning, being off work and all, I wait around Hasting's at 9am for it to open so I can get my copy, and as soon as they open the doors I lunge in and grab the first copy. Not even a minute later, two guys come in and grab the only other copy I saw out there. So within the first five minutes of the store opening up, they nearly sold out of the new CD, and it makes me very glad I went in when I did, or I would be a sadder Joel here today. As for the CD itself, it's awesome. More lighthearted than Everything Goes Numb, but the horn work is astonishing, and in terms of ska, you can't really ask for a whole lot more. Maybe some lyrics about underdogs coming out on top, and some spiffy guitaring, but really it's all about the horns. So by that measure, it's amazing.

Other things have been pretty mellow. Hung out with the gang the other night, and had some awesome hookah and conversation until the place became to ghetto to tolerate, and then we left. We wandered to the new porn store in town, seductions, and had a blast playing with all the obscene toys and gag gifts. The store itself is nice though, cool selection, helpful staff, and really clean and elegant atmosphere, rather than a trashy place with giant bouncers ready to kick you out if you say the wrong thing (like some places). I found out Stopper and Theresa will be moving to Ohio sometime in January, and am making serious efforts to hang out with him while he's still here. Even though we haven't been the best of friends the last couple of years, I have known the kid since the sixth grade, and I have to say I will miss him, and be at least a little sad knowing he's more than just a few miles away. Oh, and I've been hanging out with Bekah and Jed and their family a lot lately. It's been pretty cool, since their all really nice and seem to like me for the most part. Katie likes me a lot, and she's adorable, so I guess that's all that really matters, right?

Also, for the first time since I was hired, I've been seriously contemplating leaving my job. I don't necessarily hate the work, in fact it's easy and cooking is kind of fun. But the people there are just so intolerable...so crude and sexist and racist and just plane annoying to work with. There are only a few people there who I like, and actually look forward to seeing, but that's not quite enough to keep me there. My anniversary check, however, may be enough. But after that, I might be done with the Frontier. Fuckers.

I guess not a whole lot else has been up. My story is, like I said, preoccupying a lot of my free time. I kind of like it, though I do sort of miss socializing. Oh well, huh?
