She's quiet too, for a while. She isn't crying, not hard, not anymore. Remembering takes too much energy to keep that up.
"I remember when this picture was taken." She holds the crystal with the Doctor's holo hovering above out, so he can see it better. He's never seen this man, a curly-haired man with an impish smile and dark ageless eyes. "There was an orphanage. And of course some nasty-or-other, but he isn't important now. There was this group of kids, playin' jumpin' rope games in the square, and he just couldn't stop watchin' them. Well..." She laughs, short, shaky. "Not 'less he was joinin' them. Him and his hat and his brolly and all."
"Got lots of them. We were a brill team, could've gone on f'ever." But they couldn't. A couple of gangbangers in San Francisco, and a hospital staff too caught up in what they were doing to see what was right in front of their noses took care of that. "He was the first person t'believe in me, just 'cause I was me."
