Amy comes downstairs, humming a little, and stops short when her clothes are suddenly not her clothes. She's even more confused when a glance at Simon Perryvall reveals that he is now wearing a waistcoat and glasses, and carrying a pocket watch ( Read more... )

Anne is down in the bar, sitting dreamily at a window, which is not new. A smile plays over her lips, which is good to see, but also not particularly strange.

Her outfit, however, might cause a second look.

She turns, and sees Amy, and Anne is glowing.

Literally. There is golden glitter in her hair and on her shoulders and eyelashes, and it catches the light rather prettily.

"Amy! I see it happened to you, too."

Amy looks at her friend, blinks, and then says, "Yes, though I'm still not entirely clear on what it is."

She notices the glitter. "Did Lilly Kane get you, too?"

Anne blushes hotly.

"...no, she didn't."

Interesting reaction to an innocent question.

"But someone did?"

"Well," Anne begins, and the blush really only gets brighter.

"No. That is--well, Lilly put glitter on Bran, and then--I--he--oh, Amy!"

She is laughing now, and delighted and likely happier than Amy has seen her in some weeks.

Amy's smile is bright, and her eyes dance a little. "Yes?" she says. The do-go-on is broadly implied.

Anne covers her face with her hands, but her eyes shine at Amy over them, happy and laughing.

"...he kissed me."

"Oh, Anne!" she says, happily. And hugs her.

Anne hugs her back, and when she pulls away, she is shining and happy, and laughing, and blushing.

"He--oh, Amy. He's so wonderful. And he likes me even though my hair is red, and he knows poetry, and brought me flowers once, and he liked the pie that we made. And I'm so happy."

Amy smiles at her. "Your hair, Anne, is lovely. There's no 'even though.' And I'm happy that you're happy."

But Amy can't help but think that there's at least one other boy who likes Anne's read hair, and reads poetry, and seemed to quite like tht pie. As for flowers, Amy' pretty sure Gil would bring them if he thought Anne would accept them.

To give her credit, Anne is not even thinking that Gilbert might be upset by this in the least.

"Thank you," she says, simply, beaming.

Amy would probably not consider that a point in Anne's credit.

"So, what happens next? And what about Gilbert?"

Anne has thought about the first question, and so it does not bother her as it might have had she been asked the previous night.

"I'm not sure, honestly," she says, and takes Amy's hand to sit with her by the fire. "All that I know is that I truly care for him, and he seems to truly care for me. And--that's all right. It's all right to not know, I think."

But now she looks bewildered. "What about Gilbert?"

Amy frowns. Because she's really not at all sure Anne has thought any of this through. But all she saya is, "Oh, Gilbert and Bran, I suppose."

Anne's expression does not clear.

"Gilbert and Bran? Amy, I'm not at all sure what you're talking about."

"Then I'm probably not talking about anything," says Amy, firmly and with a bit of regret.

"Tell me more about Bran."
