Amy comes downstairs, humming a little, and stops short when her clothes are suddenly not her clothes. She's even more confused when a glance at Simon Perryvall reveals that he is now wearing a waistcoat and glasses, and carrying a pocket watch ( Read more... )

Bran waves. Golden glitter sparkles in his eyelashes and his hair. "Good evening, Amy! Has the bar got you too, then?"

Amy looks a little helplessly at her clothes. "I . . . suppose?" she says, uncertainly. And then, more certainly, "These are not my clothes. And Simon Perryvall doesn't have clothes."

A beat, and then she remembers her manners. "Good evening, Bran. You're . . . sparkling."

"It's a holiday we have, Samain, All Hallows, Halloween. In some places people celebrate by dressing themselves in silly costumes. Here the bar provides the costumes. I am lucky I escaped."

He waves a glinting hand. "Of course, Lilly Kane thought I needed some costume, so she thoughtfully provided glitter."

Amy blinks. It's just the day before All Saints' to her. "And Bar is dressing people?" she says, again uncertainly.

"I think Lilly is fond of glitter."

"Yes. She does not require excuses," Bran agrees. "Not a bad costume, yours. I have seen worse."

She smiles. "Thank you. I don't suppose you know what I'm meant to be? And Simon Perryvall?"

The extrememly small grey squirrel on her shoulder looks at the teeny-tiny pocket watch and chatters excitedly.

"Because I've no idea."

Bran has not, in fact, read Alice in Wonderland.

"Strange," Bran says. "No, I've no idea. At least you are fully dressed, now."

The possiblity that she might not be had not entered Amy's mind.

"Oh, dear!"

She looks quite utterly horrified.

Bran does not describe Cywyllog's costume to Amy. "There's lucky, now, what you are wearing."

"I suppose so."

And then she changes the subject.

"How are you this evening, aside from sparkling?"

"Very well," Bran says with a warm smile and slightly pink cheeks.

"I'm very glad to hear it," she says. "Any particular reason?"

"I spoke to my brother, and several friends," Bran says, "and I had a lovely conversation with Anne." The reminiscent quality in his smile is just a bit stronger. "How are you this evening, aside from in pigtails?"

"I'm well, and there are really no unlovely conversations with Anne," says Amy, smiling.

"Your brother is here?" she asks. It's very much an invitation to offer more information. Amy has heard some interesting things about Bran, and his family. She's not quite sure she believes them.

"No, there are not," Bran smiles. "And yes, my brother Mordred. We met here at the bar."

Amy thinks the bar is an excellent place to meet brothers, really.

But.

"Mordred? And he would be the Mordred I've heard of, I suppose?"

As the daughter of a king, Amy has issues with supporters of regicide.
