Who is *that*?

Oct 30, 2005 20:00

A very tall Companion-in-training enters gracefully through the front door, tassels of the student robes swinging wildly in front of their face as they walk, obscuring any solid view of who it is.

Come buy the newcomer a drink?

Headquirk.

"If you're trying to pull that off, you really gotta thrust your hips a bit more, sweety."

Says the pregnant "man" sitting watching the universes end.

Mal pulls the hood back.

"Thanks, I'll have to --"

Pause.

"Is that a pillow under there?"

She quirks her head. I am Jack's complete lack of sense.

"Uh, no. That a broom handle under there?"

A confused chuckle.

"No...sir. No broom handles anywhere visible or hidden on my person."

A weird sort of smirk. "Though I don't peg you as what you look to be either."

"Never usually am, sweety," she says, and it still sounds weird, to hear her NY accent in Jack's body. "Uh, the Bar's havin' a bit of fun, apparently. So I look like my brother, but... bun in the oven, they can't exactly take the bun out for a day or two, can they?"

She points to the robes.

"You hidin' from someone?"

"No...miss," Mal answers, finally getting a gender right. "My girlfriend thought this'd be funny. Tell true, It's a bit more comfortable than I'll ever admit to her face to face."

"Don't think we've ever met though - name's Mal Reynolds."

She holds her hand out.

"Sheela-na-gig, but call me Sheila. Well met, Mal Reynolds. And I think I'd wear a dress only my brother'd never let me live afterwards if someone come up and asked him why he'd been wearing a dress when he hasn't.

"Unless you count when he was in India. Bet he wore dress-like things then."

She grins.

"So, you dressed up like a girl, like a cowboy, or both?"

"A Companion Training House student, actually." Mal takes off his robes to reveal loose-fitting black silk drawstring pants and a formed white silk shirt with gold brocade across the front.

"The girlfriend picked it."

"It's shiny."

She means the gold.

"And I like the pants. But... eh? Companion training whatsitnow?"

"Um...Companion in my 'verse is...a geisha? And they have training houses for such? And they have mandated robe things?"

Mal's usually this bad at explanations.

"Oh, cool."

It's a good enough explanation.

"They're letting in guys?"

Not that she's old-fashioned. Just... old-fashioned.

"They always let in men."

"Boywhores are important too."

She grins and giggles.

"Sorry, say that again, please? Just the boywhore bit."

"Boywhores ... are important too?"

Mal fails to understand the confusion, but still smiles.

Not confusion.

Amusement.

ACCENT LOVE, even.

She squees. It looks very undignified in her brother's body. But she still does it.

"Ohgod, BOYWHORES. Where can I get me one of them?"

Mal laughs aloud. She just sounds so...excited, it's hilarious.

"Pretty much every Training House or Companion Temple. They're always there, but just fewer 'n the girls at a particular place."
