Back by the lake, near a copse of trees, there is a ripple in the Force. Well, perhaps a bit more than a ripple. Qui-Gon is practicing forms while meditating. It's not as strange as it seems. His 'sabre flashes with its characteristic green light as he moves through various positions, defensive maneuvers, and forms. He's definitely disturbable, ( Read more... )

Of course Jedi can't practice all the time. That's what tinkering with mechanics is for!

Anakin wanders outside, drawn by the Force ripple, fiddling with a small metallic ball covered in transparent panels.

"Having fun?"

Turning, and shutting off his 'sabre, Qui-Gon smiles at the other Jedi. "I would say so. 'Sabre practice has always been oddly comforting." He regards Anakin. "You seem quite comfortable. What sort of dress is that?"

"I find 'sabre practice to be the best form of meditation."

He glances down at his clothes. "There an Earth style. Something called a T-shirt and jeans. There really are comfortable, actually."

"Yes. There's something about the fluidity of the 'sabre movement, the grace of the forms which focusses meditation." He pauses for a moment. "Perhaps the first Jedi were on to something when they created 'sabres to go along with the meditation." Then again, Qui-Gon was never one to sit still under any circumstances.

"It would seem so. Perhaps the Bar could provide me with some of those clothes sometimes." He eyes his robes dubiously. "Robes can be rather hot sometimes."

"It's not just that. It's the fact that you have to give over most of your mind to the Force to do the forms properly. There's little room for extraneous thought.

"You could ask her. She gifted me with these randomly one day. I have a feeling she tries to look out for the lost souls she attracts."

"True. There is not much room for thought when one's mind is controlled by the Force. It is quite a comfortable feeling." He pauses, and chuckles. "Well, in that case, I shall have to ask her, then." There's a mischivious twinkle in his eyes. The man is up to something.

"Well, there are many who say that thought isn't my strong suit anyway, so I suppose it's best I prefer giving control over to Force, isn't it?" There's a self-depreciating smile on his lips.

"There is no Jedi who can control themselves without the Force. It is the source of our control, it is the stem of our entire being. Without it, we would not be able to function." He pauses, as if he is about to say something else, but stops.

"And yet, we also must have some innate control over ourselves, without its help, otherwise, we would not be Jedi." Oh look! It's something Anakin actually *learned*!

"Trust in the Force is what makes us able to use it, but control of ourselves is make us use it *well*."

"You are quite correct, Anakin. There must be control in a Jedi's soul, to be able to use the Force correctly. One must be confident in one's self and one's own abilities to use the Force for good." He pauses for a moment. "There is a fine line a Jedi must walk. Sometimes, it's not as black and white as people make it out to be."

Anakin snorts. "Tell me about it."

"I have a feeling that I don't really need to tell you about that one, Anakin." It's said in a kind tone. However, he lets the subject rest for a moment. "What's that?" He points to the mechanical device in Anakin's hands. Gentle subject change.

Anakin smiles. "It's a nightlight. For the twins. I'm working on cribs, too, but those are too big to move from the workroom."

He blinks for a moment. "I did not realize Valentine was going to be having twins. I shall have to congratulate her." He chuckles a bit.

Anakin blinks. And then stares. And then blinks some more. "Val isn't pregnant. Padme is."

If Val is pregnant, Anakin may have to die of shock.

"Oh, well. I shall have to congratulate Padme, in that case." He blinks for a moment, but shrugs it off.
