Salieri's back in the bar again. He's happy today. There was a girl, Count Almaviva's granddaughter, who had rejected Mozart's begging. A fine man, in Salieri's eyes, and an utter dunce. His granddaughter, though, she had a little talent. Not too much at the moment, of course, Salieri could never tolerate to teach someone like that these days, but a young man at the court had turned her family's suggestion of an alliance down. And Salieri had pulled strings here and there, and the court jumped like puppets. They would make a lovely couple, he thought. She would stop the young man going beyond his position in society.
Yes, Salieri's happy today. He has a glass of champagne, in fact. And he's playing a lively waltz at the piano. Do come say hello!
