Khayman had heard Lestat and his guests talk excitedly about the big do they're going to have in the bar tonight, Armand making vows to his mortal lover.
So he found himself the arch in the cemetary, and walked through it again and again until it gave in and took him here.
Now Khayman leans again a pillar, half in shadows, and observes the busy mortal life all around him, sweet little creatures laughing and kissing and arguning and getting drunk. Brief-lived children, such pleasure while they last.
