It is not quite morning, the quietest time in the bar, when the door opens and two short, slight figures walk in. One gives an overall brownish impression, the other is somehow purple, and they both carry only a few small and light bags that should not give the impression of laden-ness that the have about them ( Read more... )

A voice in the god's ear. "Boo."

"Whoops - there you are again! Long thime no see."

Asar-Suti looks with mock-astonishment at Lestat, to whom he said goodbye only this morning.

"Are the others coming for the wedding as well?"

"That's what we brought Marius here for, isn't it? Yes, yes, they're coming."

He pauses, and looks troubled. "What are you going to wear tonight?" Of course he looks troubled, this is a troubling matter for this vain little vampire.

"I don't know what these Armanis you were going on about really are, or whether you need them for an event like that, really. So I think I'm going to conjure myself a purple leather jacket like the one I saw in Lodon - I mentioned that? To go with my usual dark purple leather trousers. And a silk shirt. And I'll try and talk Gil into trying the same in soft green and browns."

He looks at Lestat with a bit of worry.

"Or is one supposed to wear a certain sort of thing for a wedding?"

"I think... I think the rules are a little different in this case. That sounds perfect for you and Gil; Richard and Armand wanted us to look smart." he shrugs, and then smirks, struck by a thought. "I can't wait to see Richard and David in their kilts."

"Well, then I'll just have to convince Gil that it will be perfect for us - I fear I will have to convince him to come out of his kitchen at all. It's a bit hard to think that not even I could make him forget about work, but if I'm honest, I must say I'd feel totally lost if I had to take a holiday in which I wasn't allowed to use magic. Gil can't carry what he is everywhere like I do, I suppose."

Asar-Suti shrugs; Lestat did notice part of yesterday's fight, supposedly.

"But kilts - huh! We get to ogle their knees, then?" he changes the subject to something lighter.

Lestat laughs, and feigns distress a the thought of David's knees. "Ugh. Maybe we should ask Richard what a Scotsman wears under his kilt."

He did notice the fight yesterday, and tries to comfort Suti. "Richard seems to enjoy the work he does, even though Armand could support him easily, and Gil is a genius in the kitchen. Mortals, eh?" Lestat, however, believes himself to be a selfish monster who turned both Louis into an immortal the moment he fell in love with him, and turned David without his consent. But he didn't use himself as an example, did he?

"He is, and he loves making people happy with the things he makes - I can really understand that. It's just that - well, never mind. I love making people with what I do as well, after all."

Asar-Suti remembers how excited Meg was about being a small flying purple dragon that could spit fire. He understands that feeding people well gives Gil the same sort of satisfaction Meg's happiness had given the ex-Dark God. It just rankles that even love isn't enough to distract from that. It's the old problem that even though you become somebody's lover, you also remain what you were before, and no love will ever replace whatever it is that makes you tick in life.

Lestat smiles. "That's good, good for both of you. But 'it's just that' what?"

So Asar-Suti says out loud what he's only been thinking.

"It's just that no love ever replaces what makes you tick in life, and for Gil it's cooking. For me, it's my magic, really, but there is no conflict with it - I am my magic wherever I go. But Gil missed his kitchen."

Asar-Suti shrugs.

"Am I making sense at all?"

"Oui, you are. Wherever you are in the world, you're close to Milliways, so why does it worry you?"

he is about to say 'I'm sure Gil loves you more than cooking,' but figures this is the root of the problem, and should be avoided.

"Have you tried cooking with him?"

"Of course - and doing comparative magic together. It's the most fun we can have, apart from actually, you know. In a way, being creative together in either way is just as satisfying as the fact we love each other. Does this sound odd?"

Here he is, poruing his heart out to Lestat in the bar after having stayed in his house for days and not having done such a thing at all.

The bar has that effect on it's patrons, and anyway, Lestat was away in Rome for some of that time.

"No, it doesn't." Lestat is reminded of the way he and Louis were brought together when they looked after Claudia.

He gets up to leave, "I'm going to get changed for the ceremony now, I and Louis bought a lot of shopping in Rome!"

"See you later - I'll have to find Gil at some stage, too, and talk clothes with him," Asar-Suti answers, surveying the piles of book with a kind of pleased dismay.

Bernard would certainly be pissed off if Asar-Suti just left them lying about until Esk and he are finished with them.
