Ava glances up.

"Isn't that structurally unsound ...?"

"Probably. But I wanted to see the place from up here one last time." He looks and doesn't see any cracks, at least. "I think I'll miss the view."

She sighs.

"God, this place is no fun right now."

"It's the end, I think. The time for fun might be over." Not that he's had much fun for a while. "Though who knows? There could be an End of Everything party here. It wouldn't surprise me." Or suit him.

"That's actually a good but so far unexamined point," Ava observes.

"Umm. I have a friend who can 'feel death'?" She does spirit fingers to illustrate this point. "And he says the place is coming apart. I like the party option!"

"I think by now everyone can tell the place is coming apart." Transparency is a pretty good sign of that. "But I think I want to go gently into that good night this time around.:

But it's such a stable transparency! Like being made of jelly sandals.

Or jellyfish.

Or-- this simile's getting away from us.

"Really?" Ava looks skeptical. "I mean, I guess either way you're just as dead. Except, actually, I died and I came here, so are you?"

"Dead. Yes. And thinking that my time...our time...is up. Everyone else, they can still go home." He can't prove this is the case. He just feels like it should be.

Ava frowns.

"Like ... judgment day."

"It could be. But it doesn't feel like Judgement Day should. After all, the angels seem not to be here. It's more like...whatever let the place exist in the first place is collapsing." Which doesn't explain the really, really weird things on the other side of the window.

"Maybe the Landlord owes somebody out there some money."

"I don't think I want to know who he or she or it would owe money. Or what sort of money would be owed." Actually, he does want to know. A few last mysteries to solve before going.

"I'm Charlie." He slides more comfortably onto his stomach on the rafter.

"I remember you!" she says.

Her neck's starting to hurt.

"You're the superhero." Beat. "But I didn't get your name, did I?"

"We must have met a while back. I haven't been not using my name in a while." He notices she's a bit uncomfortable, come to think of it. "Should I come down?"

"Or I could come up," Ava says dubiously.

"How'd you do it? I should probably try it once before this place goes up in-- whatever."

"Let me see if there are any ropes up here." He usually gets there by climbing on tables. But there have got to be ropes.
