Star looked delighted though. A Star Childe. Her whole body shimmered with her joy. "Ideas Made Manifest, from the start to end of all life in existence."
He is not wholly serious - but her words make him pause. That and the way she looks at him. And so he starts over, with a more formal, "My lade, lord, no I do not know of these cards. But they sound - dangerous."
As all knowledge.
"I should like to try to listen to what they say."
Why shy from danger when it has been a constant companion for so long? And with knowledge as a prize? - How can he refuse that?
They are dangerous. Not even Star, made of innocence and hope and truth and the promise of ever onward light, would say they are now. All life is made of danger and choices, accented with light and darkness. As all knowledge, like he said.
Star let her arms circle her knees, as she leaned toward her brother. Waiting for Elrond to decide on his answer. And she said, quietly, though it is not a whisper, "He is of a star." And though Tower will already know, what they know of all in the path, she says it anyway. Light and true and heart shining. Joy touching each word.
She gets another bow, deeper this time, mostly to hide his curiosity.
Not Varda, of that he is fairly certain, but one of her handmaidens perhaps? Or someone who is akin to Varda in one of the countless worlds with roads leading here?
"That is a most gracious offer, that I will gladly accept," he says to the both of them. "For it is often said among the mortal races that if you go to my kind seeking counsel, we will answer both yea and nay. It would seem wrong for me, now that I seek counsel, to not offer at least the same opportunity, to those with whom I confer."
He studies the card again. "Harbour Lights," he says finally. "Soon I shall travel to the Grey Havens, so that is a most fitting name
Tower starts mixing the drink, talking while he does so."
"That's a great change in your life," he says. "Giving up all you've been for millennia, giving up your power and unique standing, returning to the rest of your people."
"Yes," he agrees, watching as the drink is readied. "It will be a great change and I shall miss my home. And my children. For though it is true that Arda is Arda Marred it is my home and leaving it behind is difficult."
A plague on the Firstborn and their insatiable curiosity.
"Cards?" he asks, half guessing at the answer.
