This place.

Every time it shows up, Ray feels a bit nervous. Last time it were dreams. Before that, he got turned into a bird. It's no wonder, then, that he looks suspicious when he approaches the bar ( Read more... )

"Getting in some practice for the next undercover job, Carling?"

Sam's posture is stiff as he takes a seat at the bar, gaze resting on the two offered specials for longer than is entirely necessary.

"How's that going, then?"

If looks could kill, Tyler wouldn't have made it through the door.

"What's it to you?"

It's as close to What'll you have? as he's going to get.

"Could offer you a bit of advice, couldn't I?"

Though he'd do better giving over recipes, would Sam.

"And I'll take a pint of the bitter. Ta."

He snorts, and shakes his head.

"Could you now? Did so well an' all workin' undercover that las' job?"

Never mind his idea showing some result. Ray's still smarting from being chased down the pavement by the Guv after the footie match. And he's none too soon to forget Tyler putting his face into a wall.

It takes some effort to stop glaring long enough to fetch his pint, but eventually he does. After all, it's his job. At least for the moment.

"Did well enough."

Sam rests one elbow on the bartop, making himself comfortable.

Or, you know, putting on a posture of relaxation and ease.

Just to see if it gets Ray's back up.

"Me and Annie and the Guv."

Figured which blighter'd done the deed, didn't they?

He sets the pint down. It's almost all foam.

(Ray knows how to pour a pint, he just wants to see if he can get Tyler's back up.)

"Regular band of 'eroes." The way Ray sees it, the Guv probably did all the work. But in a manly way, not like Tyler. "I'm doin' all right on me own. I don' need advice from you."

Sam picks up the pint glass, tilting it up toward the light.

Then he sets it back down, arching an eyebrow as he looks at Ray.

"You're sure about that, you are? I'm thinking you'd be thrown out on your ear, pouring like this for all of your customers."

"Who said I poured like tha' for everybody?"

Suck on that for a while.

"Aren't you forgetting somethin'?"

Hey, if it worked for the Guv, why not give it a go himself?

Here Sam bothers to crack a smile. Just a little one.

"I'm as likely to be forgetting something as you are to be forgetting what a proper pint looks like."

Which is to say while a good pint has some head on it, the one Sam has now is on the far side of too much.

Or, in other words -- he'll pony up if you will too, Ray.
