The back door opens, admitting a rush of cold air and a troll catgirl wrapped in furs.

Pretty soon she's arranged the furs into a heap on the floor by the fire, and is stretched out on top of them with her tablet and a starfish sandwich and a mint chocolate milkshake.

William's also by the fire and reading a book, but keeps glancing at Nepeta, he's never seen anyone who looks quite like her.

And he's not likely to, either, outside of Milliways.

She doesn't seem perturbed by his glances.

"What are you eatin', miss?" It looks so pointy.

"A starfish sandwich," she says cheerfully. "Want a bite?"

"Starfish, it tasty, miss?"

All he knows about starfish are that they're from the ocean.

"Oh yes! ... at least I like it," she adds conscientiously.

Humans might not like troll food, after all.

"That's the part that matters. Is it crunchy?" It looks like it might be.

[nepetaleijon]

"Yes! And spiny."

She says it with relish. Evidently spiny is a favored texture.

"Don't that hurt to eat?" Spines are what are on cactus and those are painful.

[nepetaleijon]

"Not really? It just purrickles a little."

[not_his_pa]

"Huh, that don't sound too bad."

[nepetaleijon]

"Want some?" she offers again, holding out half a sandwich.

[not_his_pa]

He considers the sandwich and takes it carefully, "Thank you."

Then takes a bite and finds some of those spines, it's tricky to finish the bite as he's worried his mouth's going to end up bleeding.

She watches him, a little worried. Humans aren't as tough as trolls, Karkat says.

Very carefully he manages to swallow the bite he'd taken and hands it back to her.

He then takes a long drink of his hot chocolate which masks the taste but his mouth hurts, "That's interestin'."

A little sheepishly: "It's okay if you didn't like it."
