Mohawks aren't too common in Dakin's Where and When, so that gets his attention, though the "clink clink" is just annoying enough to make him wince.

"Into the Sex Pistols, are ya?" he says to the girl.

"That's the only reason I've ever known anybody to have hair like that."

He sticks out his hand. "Stuart."

"What, mine?" he says innocently.

"Got into Oxford," he says cheerfully.

Her smile isn't bad. Not at all.

"Read history," is the innocent answer. "Then starts a brilliant career."

"Why didn't you?" He sips some lager and quietly laughs.

"Oh, they don't make 'em like me much anywhere, love."

"That shouldn't stop you, if you can pass the exams."

He smiles again. "Don't you think so?"

He's still grinning at her. "Yeah, there is. Puppies are cute."
