First Entrance

[captained]

The door opens, admitting a tall guy in a red, white and blue costume that may or may not look like he was mugged by an American flag. The shield he's carrying on his left arm, decorated in the same motif, doesn't help either. He stops, confusions flickering across the part of his face not obscured by a hooded mask, which mainly consists of his jaw

One hell's intern looks on in equal, if not greater confusion.

This guy is super patriotic.

"... Nice jumpsuit!" she decides.

[captained]

Super-duper patriotic. And very serious about it.

"It's not a jumpsuit." He may look a little apologetic.

[hadyougoing]

"Oh."

Maybe where he's from, they call them canoodkins.

"Uh. Well. I like it."

[captained]

No, they pretty much call them 'costumes' or 'nice tights', although Steve gets more of the first to his face, and the second one behind his back. Not that he can't hear them, but the kids seem to like how he looks, so he's choosing to see that as a good thing.

"Thank you, miss. Would you mind if I asked a question?"

Well, another one.

[hadyougoing]

"Not at all," Ava says politely.

"Shoot."

(She usually says shoot, but tonight it strikes her as especially funny given that she has Bela's pistol slung in the inside of her jacket. She's been getting a lot better at gunning down targets!)

[captained]

"Kind of you." He clears his throat and takes another look around. "Would you mind telling me what the name of this club is?"

Because, yes, he's assuming that he somehow got lost and made his way to a drinking establishment near the theater.

... Yeah, called it.

With a pitying expression, Ava says, "You're new, huh?" Beat. "Well, that or an amnesiac, but it kind of amounts to the same thing."

[captained]

There's a ghost of a smile, possibly widening into a proper one after he responds.

"Is it that easy to tell?"

New. Not amnesiac.

[hadyougoing]

She smiles back, assuming but not completely that he means the first one.

Ellen had not been thrilled about her memory loss.

"Kind of," she confesses. "Everybody new gets this look, this kind of oh no! where am I! everything I knew is wrong!"

She herself got to experience that back on her own world, so by the time she reached Milliways it was pretty much old hat.

[captained]

Yep. Definitely the first. His mind has been enhanced to the point where he doesn't forget things easily, if at all.

"I must look like an idiot."

[hadyougoing]

Only because of the face mask, she thinks.

"No way!" she assures him, shaking her head.

"It's practically a bar tradition. Oh, although speaking of traditions, you get your first drink for free."

[captained]

Sorry, Ava, it's an integral part of the outfit.

"Thanks." He smiles a little less stiffly.

"Really?"

"Really really."

She smiles back.

"Welcome to Milliways. Wanna collect on that?"

[captained]

"Yeah, I think I would."

And just because it's still a little uncomfortable, he reaches up with his free hand and removes the hood.

... He has a face!

"Awesome," Ava says.

Bright, "Follow me." She turns and begins tripping along towards the Bar. "You're gonna love this part."

[captained]

Yes, yes he does. A dorky one.

"Awesome?" See Steve go 'buh?'.

"Yes, ma'am."
