Alcide is not what you'd call a heavy drinker, but he does like to head down to the bar after a day of work and have a beer before he heads home. (If he's honest with himself, he can admit that this has been happening more and more since he broke things off with Debbie.) Mostly all he wants is a good beer, and he's not too picky about where he gets ( Read more... )

"Nope." The voice is British, and the girl is short, with an outfit that has become permanently mired in the 1980's, and a scent that is that of a cat who lives with an awful lot of dogs.

Mostly 'cause that's what's going on.

"Maybe the next floor down?"

So far, that is almost the most interesting thing Alcide has smelled since he got here.

"Yeah, I ain't lookin', just askin'."

To fully categorize Ace, poor Alcide would probably need the spotter's guide to scents of the universe, because that coat of hers has been taken pretty much all over creation, and then some. But it's predominately cat, and cordite, and engine grease, and dogs. Lots, and lots of dogs. Some of them humanoid.

Oh, and there's some human in there. Really!

"Prolly for the best - from the rumor, s'a mite bit hot. We've got better air conditionin'." She's sprawled, lazily, at one of the tables, with a clipboard and pen (and entirely too much paperwork) and hot cocoa. The bar makes a mean cup of hot cocoa.

She's really confusing him on the scent front. He was thinking shifter, but it's not quite right for that. And she didn't immediately peg him for a Were, so it's not likely she's anything along the lines of shifter.

"Yeah, and nothin' good ever seems to come from people who go lookin' for hell."

Ace... generally confuses everyone, at one time or other, so Alcide shouldn't feel bad. But he's right - she's not a shifter. Not really, anyway. ... Not the way he thinks of it.

"Well." She grins, fire-bright and not entirely innocent. "So the story goes, anyway. Don't think I've seen y'round before - I take it this isn't exactly where you were plannin' on going?"

That smile isn't helping with the confusion, or with the putting him at ease.

"Not unless they've done some serious remodelin' since Thursday."

"... They might've. But probably not the 'they' you're thinkin' of. The staff here likes t'keep busy." Usually busy plotting mini-revolutions and ways to get the grafitti off the bathroom walls, but still. Busy.

"Actually, it gets rather chaotic when they're not busy. Sommat of a problem, most times." Ace: Not putting Americans at ease, be they human, were, or otherwise, since... ever.

"If the staff likes keepin' busy, it definitely ain't where I thought I was headed."

Other than the faint sense of bristling fur about him, he's pretty good at hiding the not-at-ease-ness.

"S'always good t'know where y'aren't." Ace agrees cheerfully. She doesn't seem at all inclined to go back to her paperwork (Lord knows it isn't going anywhere). "S'alright, y'know. I don't bite. M'husband wouldn't approve."

Mostly, he'd be jealous. And a jealous Spoony isn't fun to deal with.

"Oh, I ain't worried about that, cher." He gives her a grin in response to the suggestion, wide and toothy and just a bit wolfish.

Now that's a look she knows backwards and forwards, between the four werewolves she runs into regularly. She blinks at him for a moment, then grins even more.

"Are y'a werewolf then?" She asks, in the manner of one that already knows the answer to her question.

Weres where he comes from are intensely private creatures, and the only reason he doesn't immediately deny it is that he can tell she's something not exactly human herself, even if he doesn't know what that is.

"Yeah, I am. What are you?"

nitro_is_ace October 23 2011, 06:09:01 UTC
"Someone married to a werewolf." Because it's a hell of a lot easier to explain it like than give all the details. It got complicated when she was fifteen, and it's only been getting worse since then. "Ace Witherspoon, how do?"

"Alcide Herveaux. Nice to meet you." He offers his hand. It's both enormous and overly warm.

It's not at all unheard of for Weres to marry humans or, more commonly, other shifters, but that doesn't really answer his question.

"Yeah, but what else? You ain't human."

Her handshake is business-like, with odd calluses on her hands from her work with explosives and the innards of time machines.

"Well.... m'mum is cursed, m'mentor is an alien, m'husband is a werewolf, an' m'brother is a Trickster... what am I not might be the easier question." She replies, and it's not really evasion when it's true. "But the less informative answer is I got hit with the Cheetah virus a few decades back - that's what's got y'sniffer goin'."

"Cheetah virus?" That actually makes some kind of sense, even if he doesn't have any idea what it is.
