"If you mix the firewine with the icewine do you get tepid wine?" the Fool asks has he sits at the bar, bells ringing lightly heard in that weird space between the ears and the mind.

He regards the man behind the bar with open curiosity and quiet innocence. The sort of innocence found in those who are unworldly and sheltered.

Tavi tilts his head and smiles a little. "You know, I honestly haven't tried it. If you'd like to try and tell me, you're welcome to."

He's not much for wine at this age, frankly.

Hearing those bells, Tavi gets the feel of them even more than just the sound. It's something his instincts react strongly to, and he hides his curiosity behind his relaxed smile. "Any requests?"

"Well, the tepid wine might be interesting to try," he allows. "For how much?"

He's watching Tavi closer now, trying to gauge his reactions.

"Depends. You Bound?"

Tavi's totally at ease. For all that he can be reckless, quick on his feet, and usually impulsive, there are times he is extraordinarily patient. This time patience is called for.

"Yes." The one word is spat out in high annoyance at everything possible in the world.

His lips twitch slightly, and then he reaches for a glass.

"Free, then--little recompense, but it's something anyway."

His eyes light up. "I like you. You're not one of mine any more, but I like you."

"Any more?"

"Yes. You've moved on to other things and haven't been made a fool of for a long while."

What? He should introduce himself? Why?

Now Tavi looks even more curious--and internally a little concerned.

"I don't know," he says lightly. "Several people still find ways to do that. And you would be?"

"The Fool. Sometimes called Alexander."

There's a mildly amused smile.

"Only sometimes?" Beat. "Why Alexander?"

"Because people sometimes feel more comfortable calling me Alexander than the Fool. And Alexander because that was who I was, I suppose, before I became the Fool."

"Mind if I ask how?"

Tavi is incredibly interested in this story now.

The Fool never minds talking about himself. "Not at all. I suppose you do have the time? It's a long and old story."

Tavi shrugs and hands the Fool his drink. "I never mind an interesting story."
