Jane has finished dressing for the visit to Mrs. Radcliffe and is surprised to see Milliways in her London closet but walks through and then smiles at Dean,

"Are you voyaging through the Alps, Mister Winchester?"

"No, not at all. It is simply that his uncle is a rather prominent barrister and my father is a country vicar. We hope that his uncle will agree that it is a good match even though it is not a prosperous match,"
