Milliways' October daylight is not nearly as strong as the summer sun back in New Arcadia. Nevertheless, Sunshine is out on the lawn by the lake, where Balthazar had burned the Merlin's Circle into the grass. Her blue blanket is stretched out nearby, with the Encantus propped open, and huge cup of tea off to the side.
The blanket, book, and tea would have been sabotaged by an inquisitive demon bunny already, if Rae had not happened to have been practicing time-distortion spells today. The demon bunny in question is currently encased in what look like the heat-shimmers one sees over a hot road on a summer day, moving far too slowly to be natural, as Rae gathers the tea and book and blanket and moves them to the top of a nearby stump, out of the rabbit's reach.
She doesn't want the rabbit to distract her from practicing. Practice is currently acting as a distraction from her irritation with her mother, who had apparently run out of subjects to throw at Sunshine today, and had fallen back on her perennial favorite of 'If you're not going to settle down, marry Mel and have kids, you have no business living alone and should move back home, because clearly you're doing nothing constructive with your life.'
It's days like this when Rae is glad of Milliways' tendency towards kidnapping.
